It started last June 17 of 2012, when my husband had a training in Irvine California, so being new to California from BC,
Canada, I decided to book a car rental for him while he was flying going to California, thinking a taxi cab will not take him to a hotel because of the distance..So I booked for him obviously I used my credit card for the transaction. I put husband's name as the driver but it is being billed under my name and address. The rules and travel information did not state that the driver has to be the biller too. I called hotwire the first time to cancel the booking since there was a shuttle all along going to my husband's hotel. Hotwire informed me that it cannot be canceled. Alamo (the rental car company) said it was okay for them to be canceled since they don't charge any fee for that. So I told my husband not to take the shuttle but to proceed with the booking since it was already paid for and it can't be canceled. When my husband was with Alamo, the attendant there did not allow him to take any car since my husband does not have my credit card with him. In the rules, it clearly states a proof of ID for the driver as proof of age and name and not a credit card for the one who made a reservation. What do they want me to do fly over to California just to claim the car? Or have my card sent over so they can take a look at it? I've sent my complaints to Hotwire but to no avail. They said that can't give me a refund because of their rules. Can they not make an exception? We would like to take their car service because basically we had no choice but Alamo won't lend a car to my husband, so what can we do, it's not even our fault? There was no rule stating that the driver has to be the one who made the reservation, then why ask separately in the online form for the driver's name and the biller's name if it is to be assumed as one person! Does that mean I cannot book for my husband? Then the worst of it is they will take 102CAD just like that like it's a highway robbery! This is so frustrating! Money doesn't grow on trees! It's hard for me to let this go because of the amount of money that we had just spent all for nothing!
