I was a first time user of Hotwire. I wanted to grab a 3 star motel for the price of a 2 star. I came to find out the following: If you book a "hot rate" they guarantee the room will sleep the number of persons, in this case 2. Only a 'standard" booking allows you to chose the room type. After falling for the savings I found that taxes and fees were 19.54, and that I saved only 20.00 by booking on Hotwire. Then I found out that my son and I ended up with a King Size bed. I called Hotwire and they called the hotel. Well for another $20.00 I can upgrade to a room with 2 Queens! I saved ZERO. At least I get to have the "privilege" of being allowed to upgrade. In addition the hotel only has a 65% positive consumer rating. I am dreading the stay now. Oh well you get what you pay for. First and last time with HOTWIRE, and I haven't even had the chance to stay yet! Apparently Hotwire doesn't pay much attention to the reputation and reviews of the properties they contract with. BEWARE. Pay the extra 20 or 30 bucks, you will be much happier avoiding Hotwire.
