Thank you Ripoff Report for providing this site for those of us who have been taken by these unscrupulous companies. If you have someone or know of someone who can help me resolve this mess I would forever be greatful. This company needs to know they can not take our hard earn monies and not honor their word to pay!
Three years ago I was sent an offer to take out a HSBC Master Card. I elated to accept their offer as I was attempting to rebuild my credit. I did realize the interest rate was on the high side but again I was rebuilding my credit. As a single mother of three children this was a tremendous help with the cash flow too.
In one of the billing statements I was offered the Account Secure Insurance that would provide payment coverage for this card should I become disabled or unemployed. Feeling that I had been responsible for my debt by accepting this offer in the event either of these to situtions would occur I continued using my card. On March 31, 2008 I was laid off from my full time job in the insurance industry and some time there after I requested a claim form for my HSBC credit card and also the HFC loan I had taken out in January 2008.
Here's were things start to fall apart I waited for several weeks to receive these claim forms only to not get them. In June or July 2008 I again requested the forms be sent out. This time I receive two identical sets of forms but there is no clear explanation on the claim form of which form belong to which account. I then attempt to call phone number on the forms and have difficulty contacting someone. Not understanding what account the forms pertain to I complete one of the sets thinking its for the loan and file it. In the meantime I finally contacted a customer service person who was located in India and have had numerous conversations with them regarding the loan account. I have even gone to great lengths and contacted the local HSBC and HFC offices to assist me and they have had as much luck getting things accomplished as I have. Now this is where everything goes to hell in a hand basket.
As of the writing of this statement I received a letter of declination recently for my credit card claim that I was told to submit and explain what had transpired. Account Secure sited some bogus 45 days deadline to file clause that I have never seen nor read about in their claim form nor was I ever give an outline of what this policy covers or how it works. I called Account Secured today and was transferred to lil India again, imagine that, I spoke with a very nice gentleman named Kumar (which by the way tried his hardest to assist me but his hands are tied as he is in a call center with no direct link to the examiner) after his numerous thoughts of how to remedy this problem I am having he finally conceded in saying the claim was declined and that I could dispute it. OMG, its been a year since I started this process now I get to dispute the credit card claim. What amazes me is they have paid on the loan, however, they paid it incorrectly and I have been attempting to get the right dates paid and start a new claim as I was laid of this December from my full time position.
