I have owned my home on South Florida for 15 years. 2 years ago I was layed off from my job and also had to file fro divorce from an abusive husband. When I was informed that I was to be layed off the first thing I did was to contact Household Finance (my mortgage holder). They were extremely hostile to me from day 1. They refused to work with me and treated me right from the beginning like I was a deadbeat who woke up one morning and decided to stop making mortgage payments. I faithfully paid my mortgage on time for 15 years. Not once did I ever use the grace period. My payments were always on time. Apparently this does not help you with the bank when you get into trouble through no fault of your own. They told me right up front if I did not make my payments that they would foreclose. They never even considered working with me. I did not ask to be layed off from my job. I am not one of those people who purchased a home I could never have afforded in the first place. All I was asking the bank for was some understanding towards the problems that life sometimes hands people. I was willing to make payments I just needed some help from the bank. It has been two years now and I am still fighting to save my home. I refuse to give up and let them take my home from me. I did not do anything wrong yet the bank is determined to take my home. I am probably going to lose this fight but I will not just roll over. If there is anyone out there who has been treated the same way by this bank all I can say to you is DO NOT give up. Fight for your home. I will do everything I can to save my house. I am prepared to make my mortgage payments and would be happy to do so if the bank would just work out an arrangement with me that is fair. No one wins if the house goes into foreclosure. I can not understand the banks determination to do so.
