Howard Hait's company, Hearing Aid HealthCare Services sold my 92 year old mother 2 hearing aids 2 years ago for $2700 stating she needed advanced technology. I attended the meeting. My mother continually visited their Palm Desert offices because her 2 new hearing aids did not let her hear as well as the 1 cheap one she previously had. 2 years later, I moved her to a new assisted living facility in Palm Springs and she went to Hait's Palm Springs office. The audiologist told her she needed new haring aids because the old ones were "not the best technology" - the implication and manner was that they were no good. I attended the next meeting and was told my mother needed better technology - bottom line $3450. I wrote to the owner - Hait. He called me and an appointment was set for 6/26 for my mother as he was going to work personally on her hearing aids. His office cancelled the appointment and after a reasonable amount of time, I sued him in Small Claims Court. I lost due to the timeline of 2 years. During the testimony Hait stated that both sets were very basic entry level hearing aids, not advanced technology. Further this arrogant pig said that the reason my mother kept going to his offices was because she was lonely and "old people like to come in for a cup of coffee." My mother pays a great deal of money to be in assisted living and certainly does not need to cure loneliness by visiting this pigs' office. She lives near me and I can assure you she sees me a few times a week. The very disrespect that this pig shows to a 92 year old makes him a special candidate for loss of business. He has 17 locations west of Kentucky and it is my hope that people reading this will remember what poor experiences they had in his office and join in by filing their own report. Let's protect the elderly from bloodsuckers like this.

I will not begin to answer Mr. Hait's rebuttal in detail - it is pure garbage. What I will state is that Mr. Hait and I did agree through the mediator that he would update my mother's hearing aids crediting the $2700 toward that update. His requirement that I not accompany my mother to their offices was unacceptable. He did not break off negotiations - I did. Having proven himself to be a leache on the elderly, I was willing to sacrifice $2700 rather than again leave my 92 year old mother to his emplyees and their unacceptable practices. I am also less interested in destroying his reputation than in making sure that no one else falls victim. He is doing a pretty good job of destroying his reputation himself.

Mr. K's mother wore her hearing aids for two years and could have benefited from newer technology. She was advised of this by a specialist in our Palm Springs office and said she would talk to her son, Mr. Steve K----. Mr. K called and was extremely agitated that we tried to sell his mother new hearing aids. He wanted to speak with me and I agreed to a meeting. The meeting was set, but neither Mr. K nor his mother appeared.

Shortly after the incident, Mr. K sued me in small claims court. We agreed to mediation and came to a preliminary settlement. Mr. K wanted us to give his mother the newer hearing aids at no cost. The newer digital instruments were more than adequate for her needs. We both agreed through the mediator to upgrade her hearing aids for $750.00. However, I told the mediator that Mr. K was not welcome in our offices any longer due to his inappropriate behavior towards a female employee. He then jumped up and said that he would not go ahead with the settlement.

We then went back to small claims court where Mr. K was told by the judge that it was not a crime to have products upgraded to better technology even if it was fairly new. Mr. K lost the court case. Shortly after this, he made a complaint to the Better Business Bureau. The Better Business Bureau dismissed his complaint and we currently have a five star rating with the bureau.

Arbitration with Mr. K did not work so he has proceeded to try to damage my reputation. He backed out of mediation in anger, not due to what was best for his mother. Mr. K is difficult and unreasonable, as you can see from his posting, so I will no longer negotiate with him.
