In July of 2005 we purchased our home in an area in which DSL and Cable were not available, after researching I discoverd Direcway, and of course the salesman on the phone told me everything I wanted to hear in order to get me sold.
Enter the installation guy who arrived pushing his van. After six hours of running in and out of my house and sucking down a six pack of my coke he told me he couldn't get a signal where he had drilled holes in the side of my new house and was going to have to put my dish on a pole, which would cost another hundred dollars.
so I reluctantly agreed and he breezed through all the paperwork clicking through the computer like it was NASCAR and I was up and running ( or so I was told, more like c r a w l i n g. I went to get on line and it was so slow. and I was so mad the instasllation guy said , "oh its always slow the first few days" so I put up with it. and of course it was still slow after a week I called in quite angry and they discovered all my settings were wrong.
so we changed them after playing simon says with plugging and unplugging shutting down and restarting still no good. to make an excruciating story much shorter this went on with sometimes 2 phone calls a week to support. and they would change settings then have me change them back, each time saying that the prior techs were wrong.
in Novemeber of 2005, I had enough and called to tell them to disconnect, cancel and get their junk out of my house. of course they gave me the business about the disconnect fee and the equipment cost. I agreed to mail them back their equipment and I would pay them their absurd disconnect fee when they sent me the boxes to return their equipment.
the whole bill they wanted to charge me was 696.00 - 400.00 equip = 300.00 disconnect fee. In January I returned their call to their collections department, and they asked me when I intended on paying the bill. I said when you send me the boxes for the equipment, they stated oh they see now the boxes were never sent out and they would send them out.
I never recieved them and they called again 30 days later to enquire. I gave them the same response, they said they were showing UPS had dropped off a pre-addressed box 2 weeks prior. so I went outside and found a soaking wet box which was no longer any good between my shrubs and house ( not direcways fault ).
so she said she would send another one and they did and within 2 weeks UPS was showing they had their equipment. So I recieved another call, by now it is April and I said ok I will pay you, and she replied will you be paying the whole 696.00 today. I said no you recieved your equipment back already, she said she was unaware and the account balance was 696.00.
I said well I'm not paying anything until they had credited me back for my equipment. then she suggested to just put the whole thing on my credit card and when the equipment credit hit thewy would refund it ( YEAH RIGHT!!!) I said nope and she became snooty saying that it could affect my credit.
I warned her I would go after them with my very good lawyer ( who happens to be my best friend). we terminated the call and I recieved A call back on May 2nd, same woman asking me if I would like to pay the bill. same response same problem, no equipment credit, I told her look, this has been almost a year, and against my better judgement because the service is terrible I will pay the disconnect fee of 296.00.
but I am not paying for equipment which everybody including them acknowledes they got back, she then began yelling and saying that well its not my credit that going to be affected its yours and just being rude and insulting. I informed her that according to the fair credit reporting act she no longer had the right to contact me. I then file a charge of harrassing communications on her with the local police department. Somebody needs to do something about these companies who basically con people then do what ever they want.
