I have a HughesNet Satellite System and have had one since about 02-2005, I've moved three times and each time I have to pay again to have it re-installed. That's not so bad; it's the CUSTOMER SERVICE that stinks. If you think you've had bad service dealing with a business within the United States wait until you have to attempt to resolve an issue with HUGHESNET service or billing. I'm here to tell you it's getting worse. Today I called Customer Service to dispute a charge on my bill that I did not authorize, want or needed. In January 2009, of this year I un- wittedly down loaded their "ZONE ALERT" program. It gave me problems and I deleted it off my system the same day. This month I find that HUGHESNET has started billing me $4.68 extra, per month for the worthless "ZONE ALERT" program that locked up my system and was deleted the same day.

I contacted HUGHESNET, dialing 1-866-347-3292, and requested Customer Service and then ask about the additional charges. I then requested he place me in contact with Billing. This guy dropped me. I again dialed 1-866-347-3292 and their recording asks me for my telephone number to identify my site. Then another recording asked me to select a service. I did so and it again asks me for my telephone number. I was then placed on hold for about 10 minutes and spoke to one of their operators. He too asks me for my telephone number, name, site id and my name again. I provided what was asked of me and I ask why I had to provide the same information several times. The operator stated Security! HEY, Hung up on me, this is fun!

That's O.K. I call back and go thru the same process. I finally speak to a gentleman that might understand my request. But, no he has to patch me to another Foreign HughesNet Department. I'm dropped in the process. That's Par, I call back and go through the process again. I again requested the billing department and request that the ALERT ZONE program charges be deleted and request a refund for the charges for the non-functional program ALERT ZONE that I had to remove and delete from my system. The operator tells me it's been deleted from my plan. He then asks if He can assist me any further. Nice fellow I think! However, he tells me I'll have to place you on hold and check his references. He finally comes back to the phone after about 5 minutes and tells me, NO! The charges can not be refunded.

So you see this is a scam, for monetary gain, wherein they provide no service at all and charge you for it. Well, I say it was a cheap experience that I caught it early. But, I've seen US companies do the same and when you catch them, at least they remove the bogus charges and refund the last 6 months charges.

Listen, if you don't mind dealing with a Foreign Customer Service Department or billing dispute that is slow and hard to understand you're in like flint. Me I'm looking for a Good Old U.S. Company that is based here and that doesn't utilize a Foreign Servicing Agency to handle all incoming calls for service or billing. I would like that they also speak and understand English. And that you don't have to repeat every thing you say.

Good LUCK, they used to be not so bad when they were DIRECWAY. But listen, if you know of a Satellite Service Company that services people in this Country that is here in the United States, using US Citizens here in the United States, to handle service calls, serviced with English speaking operators, and handle Billing issues with ease in English, please do email me ONLY if you are using them yourself.

Just so you know who your dealing with;

HUGHESNET or Direcway Customer Service and Billing are based outside the United States. You cannot contact or obtain an American speaking person within the US. So you know who you are talking to about your system this information will allow you to understand why they don't understand YOU! The Philippines is where they handle all business with their Hughes Network Systems, LLC. Not Germantown, MD.
