This past summer I took a friend to the IMAX Theatre in Ft Lauderdala at the MUSEUM OF DISCOVERY AND SCIENCE. Upon entering I asked the ticket agent if there were seats available in the upper tiers. I always ask this question because I have vision in one eye only and I cannot see the production from the front row seats.
Upon entering the theatre, it was immediately obvious that there were only front row seats available. We asked the attendant if there were any other seats. He informed us that there were only front row seats available.
We then went back to the ticket agant and requested a refund. We were directed to the Museum staff. The Museum Staff then called a woman who was a representative of IMAX. I (believe) her name was Karen. The woman explained that they had a policy of no refunds.
I explained that while they may have such a poilcy, that doesn't mean that they can misrepresent what they are selling and then simply justify fradulent representation by stating that it conforms to their written policy. I explained that it was a breach of both ethics and the law. The only seats available were not where the ticket agent lead us to believe they were. We were not able to obtain seats anywhere near the location we rinquired about. Their misrepresentation of their product offering and following failure to provide a refund was a predatory consumer practice.
If having a "no refund policy" were a valid excuse to defraud customers, where would this fradulant practice end? I suspect that the particular IMAX theatre in the MUSEUM OF DISCOVERY AND SCIENCE has an ongoing problem with customers wanting a refund bacause the front row seats in that theatre are inappropriately close for the large screen productions. Why wouldn't they offer a refund if the customers were unable to see their show? What type of business is this that conceals the truth about their offering, misrepresents what they are selling and then hides behind a "policy" in order to keep monies they have obtained through clearly unethical means, methods and procedures?

Try getting to the theater more then 5 minutes BEFORE the movie starts. That way you'll have your choice of any seat in the theater. Seats WERE available just not where you wanted them to be. I love it when someone arrives 5 minutes before the movie starts and asks if my wife and I will move over a seat or two so they and their wife and kids can sit togeather. I tell them no. I arrived early and waited, so I could sit where I wanted to.
