I am a graduate from ITT Technical Institute since 1999. I have recently requested my transcripts to look at how many college hours I had. After receiving them I decided to request a replacement diploma. After speaking with the school (three different people) it came out that I still owe an outstanding balance of just over $500. I was shocked because in the last days of school at ITT, I sat in the financial aid office discussing with an administrator why they were sending my financial aid back to sender. A check just over $1,000. After speaking with the lady on the phone, who wasn't very nice or helpful, I got two different dollar amounts. I asked if there were any comments of my file to answer the question why I stilled owed ITT money when I had grants and financial aid to cover the cost of school. At first she told me no then she told me that my financial aid didn't cover the entire cost of going there. Which then I was told IF I wanted my diploma I needed to pay the amount of $529 even though it an collection agency bought the debt. I asked her again because the answers I was getting were clear enough to me to answer why I owed $529 when I had grants and financial aid. She then basically told me I needed to talk to the dean of the school which I said that would be fine. She put me on hold then about 5 seconds later come and said she wasn't available. I asked for her voicemail so I could leave a message for the dean to call me back. The lady acted like it was a lot of trouble for her but she did it. I left a detailed message with a call back number (mentioned twice in the voice mail) and I have yet to be contacted. I have no problem with paying my debts when they can explain to me why I owe the debt. An unacceptable answer is just because you do. I will also be contacting the better business bureau, my local news channel, news paper, my senator and my state representative. Another technical school in this area is under investigation for false paper work etc...ITT is going on the chopping block too. I am done with bad customer service, especially from a school I attended.
