A man who was obviously not english phoned me and said his name was Joe Martin attorney at law and wanted the name of my attorney as his company was suing me for owed payday loan fees.  I asked him if this was so why I had not received a letter from his company stating I owed money.  He said they had sent many e-mails and I should be checking my spam file.  He then told me I could settle this by faxing him a notarized letter with my ID, my SS number, my debit card number, expiration date and 3 digit code.  He originally called from 714-006-6000 and then gave me the number 760-514-0147 to call him on Fax number is 760-283-2301.

I asked him who was the original lender for this debt and he said he did not have to give me that information.  I began asking him where he attended law school to which he replied Davenport law school in California.  I then asked him for an address to which he gave me 5307 El Rio Ave Riverside CA.  I called the city of Riverside to verify this information to which they could not and transferrred me to the police department.  I then called Mr. Martin back a second time to find out why he had lied about the address if they were legit to which he replied the address was "F**K You B***H and that I could come over and suck his d**k."  I became very upset and contacted my local law enforcement as well.  I figured I would be done with them as he knew I had contacted the police.

Within 3 hours another person using his name called and stated that I had better fax the letter over otherwise I would have a team of investigators coming after me, my family as well as my husbands job.  Not sure what I can do, I am actually petrified of these people after the things he said to me.  Any thoughts???

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Most likely scam.

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, March 18, 2010

This is most likely a scam.  Crooks have acquired data from several online "payday" loan companies and then call folks with these types of threats.  It's a scam to get you to pay and to obtain your complete credit information.

Do NOT give them ANY of your personal information.

When they call again, tell them that you have reported them to the FBI IC3 and that you will NOT pay them or provide any information.

When they make threats to you-simply laugh at them.
