I used intelius.com to purchase a reverse cell phone look up for $0.99.  When I received my credit card statement in March 2010 I noticed a charge of $19.95 from INT*IDPROTECT MNTR SVC 877-974-1563 WA. I'm assuming this stands for: Intelius Identification Protection Monitoring Service in Washington. 

This service was provided to me unknowingly.  If I some how chose to obtain this service while checking out on the Intelius website then I was not aware of it.  This is deceiving. 

I called Intelius immediately and expressed the fact that I did not chose or want an identity protection service.  The March 2010 charge of $19.95 was refunded and the service was cancelled; however, they refused to refund the February 2010 charge of $19.95.

I feel that what Intelius is doing is wrong and misleading.  I think to myself of the thousands of people this must be happening to and at $19.95 a pop these guys are making A LOT of money off of the unsuspecting.  If you have used Intelius, I suggest that you monitor your credit card that you provided at the time of check out and if utilizing their service a follow up phone call should be made to them immediately and inform them that you do not want the credit card charged for any Identity Protection Service. 

I am extremely interested in starting or joining a class action lawsuit against intelius. They're crooks, plain and simple. The way to run a successful business is not by charging $19.95/month to unsuspecting consumers.

I use Intelius occasionally, as recently as this month. There is no search that only costs 99 cents!! It is only 99 cents if you accept the add'l service. Listed just under that is the $4.99 charge WITHOUT the add'l service.

Is it really that difficult?  I have *never* been overcharged by them..

If you select a promotional price on the Intelius website (indicated by the red stamp), you will also receive a free 7 day trial of Identity Protect. After the 7 day trial, it will convert to a regular subscription and bill out at $19.95 monthly.

However, there's no obligation. You can choose the standard price (by selecting the grey 'Regular Price' button) which will not include the 7 day trial of Identity Protect. Alternatively, if you determine within the 7 day trial that you no longer want Identity Protect, you can cancel your service anytime, online or over the phone with a customer support representative.

Please call 888-425-2727 Monday-Friday 4:30am - 9:00pm PST. We will be more than happy to assist you with you account.
