Four weeks later they finally started the roof, sometime the week of November 24, 2003. I state "sometime" because they stated on November 23 that they would start the following day, but did not. They finally finished the roof on January 28, 2004 - 10 weeks later.
In the meantime, they had stripped off the remaining metal roofing (another metal roofing mistake - Metalworks with a supposed lifetime warranty - which they never would send to us and for which I will file a separate report) and left us high and "not dry". Our upstairs ceilings have suffered extensive water damage during the 10 weeks after they removed the remaining roofing and before they completed the Fin-All roof.
In fact, (and yet again), to date we still have not received the manufacturer's warranty (which our lawyer advises us will be totally worthless when we DO finally receive it). To add insult to injury, the roof continues to leak as of this date, despite our advices to them.
We live on the seacoast, and during the installation of the roof, scaffolding was installed for the crew to work from. Keep in mind that scaffolding was in place for almost 9 weeks during rain, hail, snow and high winds. International Exteriors (Atla.) deny that they supplied to the installers defective equipment (the clips on the deck were broken and the top deck would blow off every time there was a wind - which was daily). The deck banged against the house constantly each time it blew off and damaged the cedar siding, trim, paint and roof. The deck planking blew off the roof jacks as well each time.
We have extensive damage to the finished product. Obviously since International Exteriors deny defective equipment, then they used defective, used and damaged materials on our roof.
They were in violation of their contract from the day they started work on the roof. Boxes of nails have fallen off the roof and scaffolding all over the ground. Shards of sharp metal still lay all over the property. I spent New Years day at an emergency veterinary clinic with a 2 inch gash from the metal roofing to one of my dogs and almost $250.00 in vet bills for staples, visits and antibiotics. Myself, I have spent over 30 hours during those 10 weeks cleaning up behind the installers.
The finished product is sloppy, misaligned, crooked and dented or twisted.
All of the above which IEL (Atla.) refuses to repair or reimburse.
Litigation appears to be the only route.
IEL hides behind a "corporate veil".
The owner of the Nova Scotia company is as follows:
Mark A. Wentzel
12480 Alliance Drive
Richmond, BC B7E 6J2
He has refused to respond to our correspondence.
The corporate address is:
International Exteriors (Atla.) Ltd.
55 Akerley Blvd.
Dartmouth, NS B3B 1M3
The manufacturer of the product is NOT, despite their advertising flyers to the contrary, International Exteriors (Atla.) Ltd.
The manufacturer and trademark holder is as follows:
I.E.L. Manufacturing Limited
1689 Cliveden Avenue
Delta, BC B3M 6V5
This is the same address provided over the internet for British Columbia Installation. Further, although this is the address of record on the Canadian federal trademark registry, it is not the CURRENT address - all mail is returned as "Unknown". Of course, this is blatant violation of the trademark registry and legislation.
If you do receive phone calls from them, the calls are untraceable - i.e. they use call block.
Would I recommend this company? Not a chance.
The only recourse I have is litigation. Thankfully Nova Scotia Small Claims court limits were raised to $15,000.00 last week.
Our property has been devalued by their product and their poor quality workmanship. Our roof leaks. Our roof is damaged. Our contract was violated by them. Our pets were damaged. Our house interior has suffered significant plaster damage.
Buyers - I hope you find this website before you purchase from this company! This company operates nationally and internationally. You will not receive satisfaction from them should you have problems.
