My husband was contacted by JBC Legal Group regarding a check from 1997 that he did not write and that was made out to a company that is out of business. We asked the JBC Legal Group for a copy of the alleged check and they told us to fax a request to them to get a copy of the check. We faxed the request and they refused to provide the check copy. We contacted the bank that they claimed to represent (National City Bank) and was told by the bank that JBC does not represent them. We asked JBC for the drivers licence that was listed on the check.

The # that they gave us did not belong to my husband. The check is past the statute of limitations in Ohio for being able to collect on and past the statute of limitations for it to be placed on a credit report. My theory is that the collection agency collects on these checks and keeps the money. This agency is a scam and they did not follow and FDCPA rules and none of the debt collectors were familiar with these laws. They were extremely theatening and tried to strong arm us into paying this check that did not belong to us.

Every contact with the company was a run around. These people need to be behind bars, they are clearly breaking the law and the Feds need to shut them down. My husband and I always pay our bills early and do not write bad checks. When I called to get information regarding this matter I was yelled at, threaten, intimidated and hung up on, unprovoked. My husband has spoken with a detective, filed a complaint with the Attorney Generals office and the Federal Trade Commission. I suggest that anyone who is contacted by this company do the same.
