Where do I even begin? Well, In March I applied for a job with Jamaca Me Tan. The next day I was hired. In the beginning everything seemed great. I mean the salon is a little on the ghetto side but for the part of town it is in, it was to be expected.

During training my Manager, Stephanie, showed me the ropes of the salon. Or so I thought. When our corporate manager came to visit and popped up during my shift I was informed that I was doing almost everything wrong, everything I learned from Stephanie. I was giving clients false information to get them to spend more money, not caring about their safety at all.

I was also informed that I was not able to turn the closed sign off until the exact time the store closed, which meant that if someone came in one minute before closing, I had to stay. Which was no problem, more money for me right? Wrong. One day I had a rush of customers, one being a few minutes before closing. I was told when this happens to clock out and write it in the time clock adjustment log. I left thirty-five minutes after my shift ended and properly documented it in the log.

When I arrived for my shift the next day I was told that I would not be getting paid for staying late the night before because "corporate didn't approve it". I let it go not really knowing what else to do. Stephanie had informed me that if i had a customer come in and tan late that I was now to leave the cleaning and ect. for her to do her next shift.

Last week the salon was burglarized. The police called me, the newest girl at the salon, because they couldn't get a hold of Stephanie. I called her 38 times from my personal phone and rushed to the salon, it wasn't until I called from the salon phone that she answered. Which I believe was because she thought I was going to have to call out. Either way, very responsible right?

This past weekend I had to stay late again for a customer. So I did what Stephanie told me to do, I clocked out, wrote my time in the adjustment log and left things for her. I stayed 43 minutes after my shift ended waiting for the customer to leave.

The next morning I received a voice mail from Stephanie screaming and cursing at me about leaving the salon without doing all of my duties. I was also told I would not be getting paid for staying late once again. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't there labor laws against things like this?

So I Quit.

But, I felt like there was more people should know about Jamaca Me Tan...

All of their advertisement is fake. The huge NEW BULBS sign hanging under the store sign, is a lie. It leads you to believe that all beds have new bulbs when in fact, only a few do and most of the beds with new bulbs already have bulbs needing to be replaced. Besides that, they have a drop box on the counter, when you buy a lotion your name is "entered" to win a free month in the high end bed... no one ever wins. The box is emptied in the trash and they tell clients someone else won just to make a sale.

I was told recently to make up fake stories to clients about rashes from buying lotions online and mold growing in lotions so they have to buy a replacement from Jamaca me Tan once a month, Stephanie specifically told me to "act like I care and I'm trying to help them" Reality is, they don't care, all they care about is stealing your money.

The mystic... Their spray tan booth. It should be hooked up to a drain and drain automatically, instead employees must empty it by hand, with no gloves provided. sweat, pee, spit? who knows what people do in there. I had a customer confess to me that she peed herself in there when she first used it, and employees have it all over their hands. Talk about not being sanitary!

Also, Employees have to pay for certain tans, Stephanie makes the girls let old managers come and tan for free with out corporate knowing.

Jamaca Me Tan is a horrible business place. I suggest no one goes there unless they are asking to be ripped off or placed in a dirty bed.

An employer does not have the "choice" to pay you or not.

The law requires you to be paid for all time worked. Period.

You were stupid to quit. You should have refused to work off the clock as was requested of you and let them fire you, then you would have at least gotten unemployment, and would also have a legal case against them.

You can still file a wage claim with the State of AZ, Wage and Hour Division.

File a complaint with both the AZDOL and the USDOL.

Don't let these lowlife idiots get away with this scam.

Get paid.

I think the law allows for payment of 3x wages on a wage claim in AZ.
