I received a letter from JBC legal group stating that i owed 260.00 for a check that i had wrote at a dept. store 6 years ago, yes, the check did bounce and i had gotten a letter from instachek stating that there were non-sufficient funds in my account. i immeiately sent them a money order for the amount of the check. i was unable to write a check till that check was cleared because their computer system was linked with the stores systems. now, about 500 checks later, jbc legal group is telling me that i didnt pay it, and that i now owe 660.00 because of new york state general obligations law. the dept. store that i wrote the check to went bankrupt 3 years ago. i paid with a money order, and i cant find the receipt after 6 years. i cant find any records anywhere. i checked with the post office and they told me they dont keep money order records. when i got a letter a few days ago from jbc legal group saying i now owe 660.00, i called them in tears, and told them that i am a single mother, and have just suddenly lost my soul mate of 10 yrs from cardiac arrest, and i cant afford to pay this ammount of money, and the man i was talking to said that they will be taking me to court of proper jurisdiction, and to have a nice day. they do not have my checking account number on their letters, and the letters arent signed. i thought there was something suspicious about these scammers so i decided to look them up here, im glad i did.
