This man is an accused THIEF and CRIMINAL. He may cheat or lie to you or STEAL YOUR VALUABLES -- including jewelry -- if you engage him in any business transaction.
Mr. Rosenspan may also be armed and dangerous as he allegedly has threatened at least one individual with a weapon.
The suspect is accused of trying to sell a diamond ring with a surgical mask covering his face. When police tracked him down, they found a stash of surgical masks.
On top of that, their report says they found fake mustaches, rubber gloves, a stun gun, and other people's passports.
Jeffrey Rosenspan, a graduate student who works as a private tutor, was ordered held on $4,000 bail after police say the 30-year-old stole a diamond ring and tried to sell it. [continued below]....
Two jewelry store owners say he gave them the same story. He had a cane with him. He was wearing a surgical mask.
"He told me he had cancer. When he walked up to me he stepped up to the counter and told me he was getting a divorce, said Elizabeth Henry, Market Square Jewelers.
He said, Im sorry about the mask, Im going through chemotherapy, I have cancer, said Karyn Khatib, M.K. Winston Jewelers.
Before either store owner bought the ring -- estimated to be worth about $18,000 -- the suspect was arrested on Middle Street in Newburyport. That's where police tracked him down after getting a tip from New Hampshire police. Police there reported a man had stolen a ring from someone who had advertised on Craigslist and that he was headed to Massachusetts.
Investigators say they found that ring in Rosenspan's car.
The ring was located in front seat along with a blue mask, a cane, as well as pepper spray, an electric stun gun, said a prosecutor.Prosecutors say they found nine other diamonds rings when they arrested Rosenspan. One of the store owners says she offered to buy the ring but Rosenspan left the store. When he came back she thought he had swapped the real diamond ring for a fake one.
