In March, I brought my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee in to this Jiffy Lube location for a standard oil change, its very first one. The following morning, there was a spot of oil in my driveway. At work, there was a spot of oil in my parking spot. I immediately returned to this location where the leak was repaired and my drip pan was cleaned. Inconvenience, but not too terrible.

But wait! There's more!

Because of that minor inconvenience, I chose not to return to Jiffy Lube for oil changes. Imagine my surpise, then, when I checked my checking account balance online this morning and saw that Jiffy Lube charged my checkcard $35.05 on Monday! And what a coincidence, that is the exact amount I paid for the oil change in March.

I skipped the phone and went to the location, as it's on my way home. I asked to speak to a manager, and was directed to a kid behind the register who was wearing a red shirt instead of blue. I told him of the problem, showed him proof from the bank's web site, and he informed me that there were several customers who'd had the same complaint over the past couple of days. I asked if he was prepared to give me a refund. He said no. I asked when I WOULD get a refund. He said he didn't know. I asked if he could find out. Again, he said no. I told him to get someone who could find out.

At this point he rolled his eyes, sighed and pulled out his cell phone He then dialed and stepped outside. I was more than happy to share my oil leak story with the customer who was sitting there and waiting for her oil change to be completed while he chatted. He returned and handed me the phone telling me that it was the store manager on the phone.

The manager asked how I was doing, and I told him I'd be doing a lot better if he told me he could give me back the money that was fraudulently removed from my checking account. He said he could do that, but not right now. He had to get with his "financing people", figure out what happened, and then they could talk about how best to refund the customers.

I just got a phone call from the manager, and he said he's turned everything in to the "financing people" and they're trying to figure out what's wrong. I reminded him that the money was taken instantaneously and it was taking a lot longer than that to return it to me and I was growing impatient. He said he was sorry and he'd keep me updated.

Did an employee do something illegal? Did the computers glitch? Who knows? Who cares?! I sure don't. All I care about is my refund.

Refund!

Finally, after many phone calls and angry words with the manager of this shop, I was issued a refund for the fraudulent charge. I was informed that I couldn't be issued a refund more quickly because it would skew the shop's books for that day. I not-so-kindly informed the manager that his books were not my problem, but the illegal removal of funds from my checking account was about to become HIS problem.

I was told to return to Jiffy Lube an hour later to recieve a reciept for my full refund.
