On 25 January 2011 I took my 2009 Honda Accord License Number SC -FBY216
for an oil change prior to an 1800 mile round trip to the Jifffy Lube Station at 4 Port Royal Plaze, Hilton Head, SC. The aotomobile's oil indicator wqas registered at 40%. While I waited in the
office room the attendent attended to my car. It took very .very few minutes before I was told that
the car was ready. I paid via credit card and left. On the way home I checked the oil indicator
and it showed a reading of 50%. I wondered if anything was wrong. After completing my trip I noticed that the oil indicator read 40%. Following the alledeged oil change the oil indicator
should have shown a reading of 100%. On October 18, 2010 I had the same automobile at the
same Jiffy Lube location for an oil change when the indicator read 30%. After the change the indicator read 100%. At this same time the attendent said that I needed a cabin filter and an air filter. Again I was preparing for the 1800 mile round trip> At the October visit the car had 12,983 miles. I am wondering now if the October visit was also a rip-off. On both occasions the attendent
was the same individual whom I know had work problems when he worked at the Port Royal Hertitage Golf Club.

To much reliance on computer driven gadgets.

AUTHOR: Flynrider - (USA)

The oil life maintenance indicator does not give you any real life information about your oil.   It's just a simple gadget that counts off the miles on your odometer since the last oil change.  Basically, it's just a reminder to change your oil every x thousand miles.  Of course, the gadget's accuracy relies on it being reset every time the oil is changed.  This is something that rarely happens at one of these quick oil change places.  Mainly because most cars don't have that gadget and they all work differently.

Fire up Google and search for the words "honda accord oil indicator" and you'll easily find instructions on how to reset the indicator.

In the future, you should really do a little bit of research before you go online and start accusing people of ripping you off.  A simple look at your car's owners manual would have sufficed.

Use the dipstick

AUTHOR: Ramjet - (U.S.A.)

I have an Accord also and that oil life % thing is kind of handy.  However, I've been around technology long enough that I would not rely on it alone.

Check your oil with the dipstick and then figure out how to reset the dash indicator if your oil is full. Is that Jiffy lubes responsibility?  I don't really know, that's a good question but at least if you know you have oil you can work out the rest.

manual reset

AUTHOR: mtrv - (United States of America)

these oil change indicators do not really do what people think, they must be manually reset with every service, regardless of when or how many times you change the oil, they will keep counting down to 0 until manually reset. in most hondas it involves the trip reset button
