In April 2001 we went to the Sarasota, FL Aamco to repair our transmission. We were given a discount for repairs and a 90 day warranty.

(Incidentally, our cruise control was broken during the repair and then jerryrigged; later on, we had to repair it because Aamco was unwilling to take responsiblity.)

In January of 2003, we detected a problem with our car because it went to 4 rpm when only driving at 20 mph. Jim Cosby @ Aamco had his mechanic test drive the car and told us there was nothing wrong with the car.

The following week we went into Aamco again because of this problem. Jim relented and said it was the transmission. We got socked for over 2000 dollars, but now had a 3 year warranty.

Later in January we went up to Biloxi,MS. When on the highway, our car started rattling whenever we accelerated betwen 50 and 70 mph. Because of the expense of hotels etc. We went back to the Sarasota, FL Aamco.

Once again, Jim had his mechanic test drive the car. Again, he told us it was an engine problem.

We have recently contacted Aamco headquarters, but Jim Cosby is still unwilling to repair the car's transmission.

We were told to get a second opinion by the Sarasota Aamco, the "transmission specialists."

With all the run around, this problem has not been resolved as of May 2003.

The other side of the story...

AUTHOR: Ron - (United States of America)

When this vehicle came to our center it was in need of transmission repair. The transmission needed a complete overhaul with an exchanged rebuilt torque converter. This type of repair is costly, but it is absolutely critical that transmission work is done properly.

The "discount for repairs" mentioned in this complaint is a false statement.Due to financial circumstances,or personal reasons, this person was unwilling to rebuild the transmission. He instead decided to install a USED transmission. With a used transmission you don't know what your buying. We remove the oil pans from all of the used transmissions that we install to get an idea of any damage inside, but that still does not guarantee that it will work right. This is why we don't generally deal with used transmissions, unless the customer insists on the cheaper way out.

The acceleration issue described in the complaint was due to an engine performance/driveability problem.

While we empathize with this persons situation,we are in no way at fault here.

We were taken to court over this matter, and found NOT GUILTY.

Another Victim Considering legal action!

AUTHOR: April - (U.S.A.)

Hi! I am considering taking Class action against these people, if you are interested reply to this post! Contact our State Attorney generals office of Charlie Crist, online is fastest and also the Florida Dept. Of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs at 1.800.435.7352 or www.800helpfla.com and file a written complaint with both agencies, again doing this online is much faster! Also I know you are in Sarasota but call our local Tampa Bay Area ABC NEWS at 813. 354.2885 and speak with MONA. Tell her its regarding the AAMCO in Sarasota that you took it to. I have got the ball rolling with media exposure but there is strength in numbers and the more the better, because people need to know so they don't get scammed.Again, of you are interested in legal action please relpy to this post and lets get some justice! It could save the lives of many others! Even though this happened to you in 2003, it doesn't mean that you can't get legal justice. Be persistent in calling MONA at ABC NEWS she will call you back.

Best wishes!

I UNDERSTAND HOW YOU FEEL, TAKEN OUR VAN BACK FOR TRANSMISSION REPAIRS 5 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM

AUTHOR: Anthony&tekeysha - (U.S.A.)

WE TOOK OUR VAN TO SARASOTA AAMCO FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. SINCE THE REPAIR OF OUR 98 WINDSTAR VAN WE HAVE TAKEN OUR VAN BACK FOR TRANSMISSION REPAIRS 5 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM.

EVERY TIME WE PICK OUR VAN UP FROM AAMCO IT RUNS FINE.THE NEXT DAY OR TWO THE VAN WONT GO IN DRIVE NOR REVERSE.

ONE DAY I WAS TRYING TO CROSS AN INTERSECTION WITH MY 1&4 YEAR OLD IN THE VAN WITH ME AND THE VAN WOULD NOT MOVE, IT WAS LIKE IT WAS STUCK.

YOU COULD HERE THE ENGINE ROARING BUT THE VAN WOULD'NT MOVE. THE WAS THE MOST SCARIEST THING IN MY LIFE THAT HAD EVER HAPPENED TO ME.

I WAS SCARED FOR THE SAFETY OF CHILDREN AS WELL AS FOR MYSELF.

YOU TAKE YOUR VEHICLE FOR REPAIRS AND YOU TRUST A BUSINESS TO REPAIR YOUR VEHICLE SO THAT ITS SAFE TO DRIVE AND SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS MAKES U VERY UPSET.

ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR CHILDREN ARE ON BOARD. THIS IS NOT FAIR.

YOU SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND YOU GET BAD SERVICE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS.

Dear William~~~~~~~This problem sounds kinda funny!! a rattle at 50-70 mph/ 4 rpm ~~(the engine is dead at this point) is this a reasonably driven vehicle or a high mileage beater?? front wheel drive or rear? There are alot of blanks in your story ~~~~~Can you be more specific and more informative on this matter~~~~~ if this is something with the shops responsibility i would like to help you~~~if this is something on your end maybe you have to go a little fther with other repairs to solve the problem~~~~i can help you on either end~~~~~~~THE TRANZMN
