John Montague is the worst example of how egregious grifters are taking advantage of 'Minnesota Nice' in our start-up company community. I was moved to write this because I saw video somewhere featuring Mayor Ryback talking about the entrepreneurial community and there was John in the video as if he was R.T.'s advisor. I can't believe new initiatives like Project Skyway and others seem to have John involved early on (and at least he seems to disappear when honest people spend time with him). If people would just do Web searches on all the scams, lawsuits and deadpool companies he's been involved with -- Golf Intelligence, Muve, some early-stage fund, and others -- I would think they'd stay miles away from the guy. ..... Yes, I've been burned once by John, both monetarily and in my reputation and relationships with other people important to me. At least it was some time ago, and I've moved on. So, my advice to the Minnesota Nice start-up community is: Don't take my word for it. Just do a lot of Googling about Mr. Montague if he sticks his nose in your business.
I was glad we rid Minnesota of an equally vile grifter in the person of Matt Crowe. Let's hope we can cover the stink of Montague some time soon.
