Jones International university rushed into registering and rush me threw the financial aid. I had to drop out because of medical problems i left e-mail & left messages with two different persinals i gave anuogh notice but they never did so i got droped unofficial drop. i had to do appeal to re-inter every sens i have been mistreaded and taken advantage of im disabled and a single mother. They keep changing things and thin the financial aid siad the sent my financial aid back to the Government they did not notified me i was waiting & waiting finally i called them because the class is about over and i have no book, thats when i was told they sent it back. they get you in and thats it they dont call to see how you are doing on your on-line classes. That is so wrong to do to anyone taking advanege of. And saying i have an outstanding balance on my account.

Sister received Masters Degree from JIU

I beg to differ.  My disabled sister who is on Social Security disability, completed a Masters Degree in Adult Education at JIU.  Her undergraduate degree that she earned in 1978 was in Home Economics.  I found it strange that JIU was the only University online or otherwise which would allow her to delve right into an advanced degree in education with no previous educational background.

My sister is extremely literate and well-spoken.  She complained on numerous occasions to JIU staff that papers and postings were submitted with inappropriate sentence structure, misspellings, and entire paragraphs that made no sense whatsoever.  She complained and asked how the University could garner any respect or establish any standards when such submissions were receiving A and B grades.  She was frustrated with the abilities in communicating, spelling, and writing of other students yet her complaints were never addressed.

JIU does accept illiterate individuals who cannot spell, use Microsoft spell checking software, construct a coherent sentence, cohesive research paper, or any number of the basic educational skills that most students of higher education possess.  Now my sister is deeply in debt, unable to find work since she has no background in education, and is still disabled.  She was under the impression, undoubtedly instilled in her by JIU staff, that she would be able to start a consulting businesses and act as liason to the public school system due to her advanced degree, yet this is not the case.

3 students in my house

We have 3 students of Jones International University in my house and I am one of the students. None of us had any trouble from the staff of the school we all signed up last year and I am almost half way through the courses that I signed up for and I am already recieving job offers from well known businesses. The way I see it is you were to afraid to speak up for yourself and let them push your buttons and make you angry. So I have to ask who are you angry with? I think I can answer that question for you,but you first need to ask yourselfhow were they pushy if you did not want to start your degree you would not have contacted them.

I had a extremly good experience with Jones. If you ask yourself about your program counsler did they offer to work with you or did they just give you classes you were not ready for? Now if you were not ready to go back to school why would you let someone push you to sign up for advanced course of study?

I'd rather not waste my time describing the many ways your post hits all of the wrong notes. I must only because it is such a perfect example.

Your very first point of, "I don't understand how you could even get into the University." should bring up red-flags about the university itself rather than immediately questioning the claims of the victim. The right
question is, "What are Jones International Universities admission requirements and do these have any sort of indicator to the prospective students true academic ability?" The answer is an emphatic NO. All that is required is an accredited high school diploma or GED. If we analyzed things more carefully, we would know this requirement is far from telling in regards to true academic ability.

I do not have quite as many qualms about your second point. The prospective student could have been more organized in their approach. Though there is one glaring error in your argument after this. My only caveat is that JIU has proven to have communication issues evident through many other reviews. Whether
it is over contacting or under contacting, there is most definitely a communication breakdown.

You go to present your argument on how to prove JIU is in fact a "scam," when the original poster never made that claim!! Why so defensive? Is there something leading you to believe JIU is a scam? Though I
can assure you they attempt to be a university and are not a "scam," you use very interesting language...

Now things get a little absurd on your end. I love how you start slowly in your attack on this poor individuals disabled status and depressing story. The original poster has done their best job at providing this legal website with their account. Not to mention the fact that it appears you think this person does not know they have shortcomings when it comes to spelling and grammar. It had to be very hard for this person to write this claim. Desperate, even.

How is it okay for you to verbally attack this person the way you do and then claim they, "don't deserve any consideration." Easy, it is not and you should be ashamed of yourself.

I have attended JIU since 2010, and am now having the same problems. All of my Financial aid/Pell Grant/Student Loan, etc. information has all been accepted and approved. I printed all pertinent information, and have saved the voice mail from a JIU Financial Aid Rep. congratulating me on my award package. Upon registering for November courses, there was a hold on my JIU homepage. This hold will not allow my student advisor to register me for my next semester.

She asked me if I wanted to speak with the collections department and set up another method of payment so I could register. I was beside myself. I also receive a stipend, after all payments are dispersed. This has not been received yet as well.  I have posted my own complaint, and will use yours as a reference. I have also jotted down the names of the organizations you have used, incase a legal matter becomes my next step.

I am a student at J.I.U. and my student support counselor calls me at least twice a week and never at an inconveiant time I own my own business and I am constantally on the run either for supplies or parts for the jobs.

I honestly do not know how you or the woman in the main part of this complaint where even accepted to the University, judging from the typeagraphical errors in both of your statements, I feel it is safe to say that you went to public school and the teachers passed you because you were an althlete not because you could spell or do the assignments given out.

Maybe you should consider taking some remedal classes too. Because you sure can not spell simple words.

I have nothing but respect for the staff at Jones International University they have always treated me respectfully on the telephone and the instructors are among the top of the list in their field.

As a student I am working to keep my grades up and with my work schedule it can be difficult at times. I too am handicapped but I still work a 40- to 60 hour week. Being disabled does not need to hold you back, make your disablity work to your benefit.

As a business owner and disabled veteran I work very hard to make other people with disablities feel good about themselves by offering a handicapped friendly work enviroment I have three handicapped employees at this time. So as a rebutal to you about J.I.U. don't let your sjortcomings effect your whole world just consider this "knowledge is power, without it we are adrift in the ocean without a paddle and wondering aimlessly from one wave to the next."

James (Kissimee)- you are both right and wrong, there is truly more dynamic to this drama and, in line with what Jeanski (Buffalo) stated, the burden of responsibility lies on the UNIVERSITY to be selective in their admissions process and not allow people on 3rd or 4th Grade literacy levels to attend their Uni. RED FLAG. You don't blame the janitor for applying to the CEO position. However, if he manages to be hired, you become suspect (but only at the company).

The complainant states JIU sent her money back- but she is unclear as to whether they sent ALL of it back.

Thirdly, complainant states that JIU shows her owing an outstanding balance due to her admissions (and, presumably, class admissions [that were incomplete]). But you have to ask whether this is morally right of an organization to "lead someone on" especially when that person was inept. It sounds like they (JIU) were looking harder for a source of Stafford or Pell Grant funding than they were for a qualified student.

Fourthly, my wife has attended JIU for a year now and has had mostly a positive experience. When I applied (and was accepted) to JIU in Spring '12 my wife and I were ecstatic! I was finally going to be able to finish my Bachelor's degree after putting it on hold during the one and a half years I was in the Middle East.

My experience has been nothing short of HORRENDOUS. They were cordial at first and I was well qualified (those qualifications can be provided but are irrelevant for these purposes). I did have difficulty, shortly after admissions, of getting return phone calls. I work for the government so I am not available during the day at all hours (I do get my one hour government lunch break). One of the things they advertised and stressed was that they cater to people who have day jobs but want to continue their educations.

I preferred working with one person but they never seemed to be able to call me during my lunch break!! I informed them that if a certain individual cannot contact me during my lunch break (the same time every day) then they can forward my information and reason for communicating to someone who COULD call me during lunch. This never happened. I would get inappropriate phone calls at my work office about my affairs there- I asked them explicity not to and they would have to have actually looked up my number. Due to the nature of my job I do not have considerable or convenient access to a phone and furthermore due to the sensitivnature of my job I was getting mild reprimands for having to leave my duties to take JIU calls. Whenever I called them during the start of my lunch break the person I needed to speak with was never there and when I spoke to another rep they never seemed to know what was going on, but they were quite good at calling my office phone about 15 minutes after my returnto lunch.

The abovementioned are their GOOD qualities; the rest is horrible. To make this story as short as possible and also to protect myself from further harm I will be as short and succinct as necessary. I got accepted from FAFSA, with good results (becoz government jobs don't pay crap I actually got good financial help). I got awarded the money, the money was dispersed to JIU (I have tons of documentation evidencing such, you'd think JIU would be smart enuf to think that most students are going to keep documents (read: evidence) of everything that goes on, but apparently not). At any rate I am happily attending classes when suddenly I am blocked from logging in to my classes. I was engaging and well liked by both student and instructor and was doing well to boot.

I call them about this, many times over 2 days, and they cannot figure out why I am blocked! One rep I spoke to informed me that it was a clerical error and that he took care of it and that when I returned home that night I would be able to log in. Nope, it was never fixed. Finally I got a voicemail (again calling me during a time of day that I wasn't available after informing them 100+ times to only call me certain hours. The woman claims it is a financial "hold". Ok, I said, thinking I needed to sign or fill out some online form. The woman claims that I never filled out FAFSA! OMG the money from my FAFSA was already dispersed to them (they conformed such in communications with me which I have records of) so how could they claim I never filled it out in the first place!!

To make matters worse, JIU still maintains that they "never got my student loan money" yet the student loan organizations in question reassure me that JIU has indeed received the funds. I'm not rich but my education is important enuf to me that I would have paid cash if it meant bypassing all the monkeyshines. I don't care how it gets paid just that it does so that I can finally complete my bachelors. I of course hit the roof (as you can imagine) but maintained by cordiality all throughout. I requested twice that they do an internal investigation into the matter and these never occurred. A third time I requested ALL my info be forwarded to the dean/chief of financial aid, they promised this would happen but again never did. What these people at JIU don't realize is that they are doing real harm to real people. My wife and I want to have kids and we want to provide for them well- I don't want to spend my kids life going to night classes and JIU is inhibiting the life-plans of my wife and our hopefully future-family; getting a bachelors degree for myself would facilitate those life plans. JIU has almost had a "shame on you for getting screwed by us" attitude, but is it really my fault??

I believe in taking personal responsibility for myself but honestly I have worked as hard as I possibly can in dealing with these people. I have since recently forwarded my complaint and relevant evidence to the Colorodo Attorney General's Office as well as the U.S. Dept. of Education. JIU seems to be Stonewalling these investigation efforts.

After reading your report about Jones International University, I highly question the truth, accuracy and purpose of you writing this claim!

First of all, I don't understand how you could even get into the University.  Did you graduate high school- or for that matter, even grade school??  Your grammar, spelling, sentence structure and English are terrible at best.   How in the world would you expect to get through even one college course without these abilities?
Second, you stated that you 'notified' the University.  How?  Did you get return receipts?   Did you follow the procedures as outlined by the University for withdrawal, etc...?
If you are going to accuse them of being a scam, you need to make sure all of your ducks are in a row.  In other words, make sure you have done what you need to do to insure that they have a chance to respond to you.  It's unfortunate that you're disabled, BUT what does that have to do with this issue?  Do you expect people to feel sorry for you?  Do you think that your lack of ability to understand the workings and procedures of the University are not necessary because you are 'disabled'?? 
It sounds to me based on your poorly written report that the University followed their procedures and YOU did not! Does that justify in your eyes, that the University is a Scam????  Why??? Because things did not go your way???  Boulderdash!
You need to careful what you say about people and businesses because someday, you might find yourself the defendant in a liable lawsuit AND being disabled will not help you!
In this situation, I side with the University and you should be grateful for any help they offer you from  this point because you don't deserve any consideration.

What's really sad about this whole story is that a supposedly legitimate university admitted you when you can't even write at the high school level.  You need to check with your local community college for some remedial classes.  Good luck!
