Consumers Beware of Joe Hood and all Joseph car dealers! Joe Hood is as dishonest as they come.
I'll cut to the chase and then provide the details for those who are interested.
After being unable to resolve a dispute over a repair gone bad with Joseph Chevrolet directly, I took them to court, and I won my case. The judge found that the dealership was negligent in the repair procedure and I was awarded a little over $1600.
This was back in September of 2009. Joe Hood has and continues to 'work the system' to avoid paying.
He (Joe Hood) is very good, very experienced at playing the system. It took me over 9-months to get my day in court, and he even tried to get that postponed at the last minute, but the judge wouldn't hear of it.
Again, Joe Hood is as dishonest as they come. He likes to talk about honesty, integrity, and quality, but his actions say otherwise. If you have any doubt, you might ask the employees who were cheated out of several weeks of pay what they think. Or ask Joe himself why for a period of at least one year he was not allowed to go to his own dealership (the Chevy dealership in Millington) - The result of another law suit involving things like infidelity and sexual harassment. Yes, Mr. Joe Hood is quite the poster child when it comes to modeling honesty, integrity, and quality.
In any case, for those who are interested, following are the details of my case.
In 2008 Joseph Chevrolet replaced oil cooler lines on my GMC van. That repair (and others performed at the same time) were touted to have had a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty. Ten months and 7,000 miles later while driving this vehicle, the "Check Gauges" light illuminated, and the oil pressure gauge dropped to zero.
I shut the engine down within seconds and safely coasted to a parking lot. The undercarriage of the vehicle was oil soaked and no oil registered on the dipstick. I called for a tow truck and the van was towed to a local independently operated repair facility (this happened 100-miles from home).
A couple of days later the repair shop called to inform me that one of the oil cooler lines (yes, the one that was replaced 10-months earlier) had blown off and that the engine had lost all of it's oil. They further informed me that as a result, the engine had a knock indicating severe internal damage. I, of course, called Joseph Chevrolet and explained the situation.
To make a long story short, they (J. Chevrolet) did nothing. They were unable to find any kind of part failure to explain the cause of the line blowing off and therefore refused to make any repairs under warranty.
Well, I did a little research into the procedure associated with replacing oil cooler lines in an attempt to determine how this line could have blown off. I learned that when these lines are replaced, GM requires the use of new "retaining clips." In their service information they have in bold print instructions that state, DO NOT reuse the retaining clips, replace with new.
So, I checked with the parts department at another area GM dealer and I discovered that these lines do not come with these new clips. The clips are sold separately. Well guess what? - There were no clips charged out on my invoice! If they had replaced the clips, they surely would have charged me for them.
I called and confronted the service manager with this info, and he readily admitted that they did NOT replace these clips. He stated that it was standard industry practice not to. Even though the manufacturer requires that they be replaced, I asked? Yes, he said. In any event, they still were not willing to repair my vehicle so I took them to court, and as I stated earlier, I won this case.
The judge found that they were negligent for not replacing the clips, and that this negligence was the most likely cause for the line becoming disconnected, the resulting loss of oil, and the damage to the engine.
So again, beware of Joe Hood and any Joe Hood owned/operated dealership. He is not to be trusted.
