After a modular home purchase ($207,000 worth!) gone bad, we sought legal help and advice. Home flooded, basement full of cracks.....We stopped our project before house was set and sought help for damages on home we never even lived in.

Mr. Joseph Sefa of Davison, Michigan promised he could handle things with a couple letters. He checked the licensing of basement contractor and said Lansing confirmed this man's builder's license. Lo and behold we (1.5 years later) found out the guy DID NOT have a license.

Mr. Sefa took $850 up front, lied to us about license check, sent letters to involved parties that were filled with spelling mistakes and wrong information and would not give our money back.

The contractor skipped town with $27,776 of our money! Another firm (Winegarden, Shedd of Flint) provided letter after letter with no results then dropped us when we DEMANDED a court date before we lost everything we owned. All we got was a legal bill for $5,500!

We are still working on the completion of this house project (two years going)! Read more soon under manufactured/modular home rip offs. We went all the way to the attorney general and nobody has "time".

#1 REBUTTAL Individual responds

Attorney Joseph Sefa's Rebuttal to Misstated Facts

AUTHOR: Davison Legal Associates - (United States of America)

Unfortunately, since this post is anonymous, it is difficult to respond to the specific facts of this case. However, to begin with, a fee of $850.00 for letter writing is excessive, in 2001 we charged $395 for a letter writing case. Today, in 2009, we charge $595.

As with any legal matter, the results of a case are never guaranteed and Attorney Sefa would not promise a client that he could handle things with a couple letters. Attorney Sefa often encourages clients to retain our office to write letters to the other party prior to filing a lawsuit. This opens the door for communication and allows the parties to attempt to settle the matter outside of court; it is also less costly and more time-efficient than filing a lawsuit.

All letters sent by our office are scanned with spell-check on the computer and are reviewed by both the paralegal and the attorney prior to being mailed out to the parties involved.

Prior to sending the letters, we establish the relevant facts. In this case, Attorney Sefa checked the licensing of the basement contractor and confirmed his builders license. Obviously, the man must have lost his license at some point during the 1.5 years that passed prior to the second license check.

If the letter writing is unsuccessful, Attorney Sefa advises his clients to take the next step in the legal process by filing a lawsuit. It appears that this client chose to hire another attorney (Winegarden Shedd) who charged more money ($5,500) and did nothing other than send letters on behalf of the client, without achieving any results.

Any time our clients express that they have a problem with our services, we encourage them to schedule an appointment to discuss it so that we can resolve it. We believe that every problem has a solution.
