Just traveled 36 miles one way to have our rotors turned and new pads put on.For the advertised price of $99, then they give this spill that they cant do anything because they claim we need new rotors, drums are leaking on the back, etc. etc. huge list of "problems" that they say by law they cant just turn the rotors and put new pads on if they cant perform all these other tasks that added up to $1000.oo worth of work!

turns out that rotors could be turned again and only costed us $150.00 at a shop close to home, nothing was leaking. WASTED gas money and time driving 72 miles ot of the way to be lied to and treated as though we were stupid. Manager was an arrogant smart a**.

they didnt get a dime out of us and will get nothing but a bad name with everyone i know. They need to put in their advertising that they wont do any work if they deem that more things need to be done and save people the hassle.

Just Brakes is a lure you in with a low price and spring all this extra repairs needed on you type of place. THEY lie and trick you... be wise get a second opinion!!! just as you would a doctor.

Not as dumb as they think

i didnt go into extreme detail but i will now.. just brakes told me my rotors could not be turned i needed NEW ones..that they had been turned many times before and there was not enough left on them to turn them again..LIE .... my rotors had never been turned before.. i should know its my vehicle.. i could even see the lip above where the brake pads had wore them from the original thickness of the rotor and the other shop measured them for me and i researched it on the net to see if anyone was lying to me about it.. so i am an informed consumer i knew before i went what needed to be done.. the back was not leaking.. the calipers were fine.. i am not a dummy.. all i needed was my rotors turned and new pads and shoes.. i am hauling around my three children in my vehicle and i wouldnt be doing it with a faulty brake system just to "make me happy" as the comment was before.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Info for TinMan

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, November 25, 2007

The fact of the matter is, that if a car drives in to the shop OK, it would most likely be able to drive back out.

And, under Florida Law, a licensed repair shop is prohibited from re-assembling KNOWN DEFECTIVE PARTS that would make the vehicle unsafe to go back out on public roads. That is the extent of the shops liabilty.

There is a BIG difference between an absolutely needed repair, and a 'suggested" repair. All the shop has to do is provide the customer a written estimate. If the customer refuses the work, all the shop has to do is indicate on the estimate that the customer refused the suggested work, and have the customer sign it. At that point, they are off the hook.

As far as rotors go, they can have enormous grooves cut in them, and still be safe to drive. They will not last long, and surely will affect performance, but thats it.

The ONLY things on a car's brake system that would be considered unsafe and could not be legally reinstalled is something that would cause loss of brake pressure such as a leaking wheel cylinder or master cylinder, etc or a visibly broken item like a brake pad broken in half, or a drum or rotor cracked, etc. Those are the things the law covers, and a shop cannot reinstall.

However, unscupulous shops like Just Brakes plays on fear and ignorance to make a fast buck. I have seen this first hand. They are in violation of the law in most cases when they tell a customer they cannot reinstall the old parts. 9 times out of 10 this is an outright lie.

The problem with these types of shops is that the "mechanics" make very little money by the hour and MUST "upsell" to get the commissions/bonuses to be able to live.

They really take the elderly for a ride down here in Florida.

And, common sense would tell you that you CANNOT get a 4 wheel brake job for $99 at ANY shop. That is BELOW COST when you figure in the cost of the pads and shoes, the labor cost and the shop equipment and overhead cost, insurance, etc..

How could a shop stay in business by doing $99 brake jobs? The answer is simple. They can't. Just common sense here.

I don't know about Just Brakes #342 But I have had work done by Just Brakes In Bryan,Tx.

I dont know about your experience with them but , at the Bryan,Tx store where I went to have my repairs done. I also needed more that the $99 repair as do most people. BUT it is not ALWAYS the mechanics fault. I mean If your brakes have XXXXX amount of miles on them and say you keep driving thinking I'll just drive till I have a problem like most people do then YES you probably did need the repairs they quoted you. You get mad at them and goto another "shop" or "friend" and they tell you NO you dont need all that an they do only what you request them to do and you are happy. NOW lets look at REALITY, you go to a shop , they tell you just what Just Brakes told you ONLY they EXPLAIN to you that If they were to perform ONLY what you came in for that they would be HELD LIABLE for your car and any injury you caused IF your brakes happened to FAIL and you were involved in a wreck and the brakes caused it. THATS JUST COMMON SENSE!!!!! So before you go condemning ALL JUST BRAKES Stores Step back and think a minute of how you would handle it IF YOU OWNED A SHOP. JUST MY OPINION !!!!!! Sorry if I struck a nerve but it sounded like you had more then your fair share anyway!!!

And Before you say it : NO I DO NOT OWN A SHOP OR WORK FOR JUST BRAKES and AM NOT ASSOCIATED with them in any way, shape or form. Just had my vehicle repaired there and was very saitisfied with the work they performed AT THE BRYAN,TX Location.....
