Search TipsI understand how you feel about this and I did read your rebuttal. However, you hit the nail right on the head when you said "punished" for cancelling. That is exactly how I felt I was being treated by JustHost.com.
I felt that they were deliberately treating me poorly because I got fed up with their lack of customer service to address two issues. These two issues were experienced just after signing up. The first one was they did not send me an email with my logon information. That is customary and should have been automatic.
When I tried to address that issue with them the tech support said it could be as long as 24 hours before I get a response on the support ticket. I told him I would cancel if it took any longer than another hour.
But, then I get an email saying, "Sorry, blah, blah, blah" and offered me 50% off. When I tried to take advantage of that it would not let me use the domain name I signed up with. Yeah, I was ticked off royally and wanted to cancel.
When I told the tech guy I wanted to cancel he gave me cancel@justhost.com. I thought that was enough (as per the tech guy) but all they did was come back wih that 50% offer again. I complained that it was a screwy deal and asked them to tell me what the offer would be in dollars and cents. They came back with an expense that was greater than half. Meaning, it was not actually 50% off.
I told them that was really crazy and I was already cancelling, but then they made an offer of upgrading me on "Priority Support". I told them that I was probably in this mess because I did not have priority support and it is stupid to have to pay for better support.
Still, they kept coming back to me with another person sending either the 50% off deal or the offer of priority support. I just told them I wanted to cancel, get my full refund and keep my domain name. I kept checking and the domain had not been registered yet on the first day into the second day and all the way into the 3rd day up until someone emailed me and told me I had to cancel through a form on their site.
I went to the site and in the process, step 5 did not indicate I would be getting any refund. I complained and they said they fixed it but when I went back they had a fee of $20.00 for the domain name being registered. I was so angry with them because it had not been registered until the late into the 3rd day even though they knew I was cancelling and would be taking it with me to another host for registering.
When I finally negotiated a full refund they said they would keep the domain name which was something that did not sit well with me. I wanted that domain name for my business and they stole it because they thought I would stay with them after they registered it. I told them no way was I staying with them and I would just created another domain name.
Then they sent me back to the form again and there again was a $20.00 fee for a domain registration even though they had made an agreement which was binding that they would keep it and I would get a full refund. I told them that I refused to fill out their screwy forms and they have had proper notice for 3 days that I wanted to cancel and that was enough to have the account cancelled.
I started within 2 hours after I signed up telling them I wanted to cancel and sent the email like they required. It took them 3 days of my constantly telling them to cancel to finally get them to refund my PayPal account minus the domain name.
I advise everyone not to do business with JustHost.com because they will make it worse for you if you tell them you want to cancel and if you stay with them then you will probably have a lot of support headaches.

I actually goofed, I had canceled my justhost account but was paying via paypal. The paypal account was set for autopayment. So despite being canceled the money was sent to justhost via autopayment.
