Has the builder K. Hovnanian, which recently purchased Renaissance and Washington Homes, failed to provide you with quality construction and customer service after the fact?
Do you have a story to tell about the company using the local politicians (who willingly go along) and government agencies which oversee the quality of the work?
Has the company, after suspiciously convincing the elected officials to rezone purchased land, come into your town or community to build high density, multi-use properties under the label of "affordable housing?" Has it then left the community to "clean up the mess?"
Has this developer and others come into your community and proceeded with the high density development despite significant local citizen protest and ample reasons to curtail such development?
If so, tell you story here. Apparently, there are quite a few customers of K. Hovnanian that are not happy. They have been left with significant financial burdens as they try to fix the problems that K. Hovnanian refused to fix. There are many lawsuits that have resulted from the company's actions.
If you have a story to tell about the elected officials being in the developer's back pocket, please tell it here. Apparently, there are some who say that K. Hovnanian are giving favors and buying the support of those who are supposed to be preserving the citizen trust and supporting community opinions.
Just look at what K. Hovnanian is proposing to do in the Hunter Mill Road and Sunset Hills area in Vienna, Reston, and Herndon, Virginia! The company wants to take over 300 acres and develop it up to sixteen times what is allowed under the current Comprehensive Plan of the area! All this in the name of "affordable housing" and transportation-oriented housing areas.
One mile from the metro station that hasn't even been built yet? Thousands of new people traveling on a two-land historic byway? Untold numbers of new children added to the already overcrowded area schools? What is this developer thinking? That's easy! It is thinking only of $$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!
Apparently, so are the elected officials! There are many who think the Board of Supervisors in Fairfax County are closely tied with the developer in all this. Why....the developer has issued a big add in the local paper describing this "great" new development....all before the rezoning has even taken place!!!! According to the developer itself, the purchase of the land was made with an "understood agreement" that the land would be rezoned!! Interesting....very interesting.....especially since the citizens were not a part of the prior agreement!!!
Hey....they say the citizens are involved. Why, the County has spent $29,000 on a private consulting firm whose task is to compile the opinions of those affected. Problem? The whole effort was very weakly advertised and the process has been frought with flaws from the beginning! Why is it that the people who have taken part feel that they have been used and spit out.....taken advantage of....manipulated....all so that the County can say that the public input was considered? Well.....because they have been used and abused!!
The citizens are a bit more savvy than the elected officials and developer thinks. They have already organized in large numbers to fight this "done deal!" They are turning out in record numbers to speak out. But...where are the Board of Supervisors? Well...they aren't around, choosing instead to have the private, paid consultant to field the questions and comments!
What else is going on? Well, the BOS formed the "Hunter Mill Area Special Study Task Force" to study the situation and make recommendations to the BOS. Interestingly enough, though not surprisingly, there have been corporate-interest "plants" within the groups which are supposed to be deciding the fate of the communities in question. Manipulated is a mild word, don't you think, for what is happening to the citizens in the affeced area? Actually, they are being railroaded into submission....all in the name of GREED....developer and political greed!!
Does this sound familiar? Has your community faced problems in the land use decision-making process? Has land been rezoned because of the deep pockets of developers? Has there been development of land with disregard to the existing infrastructure?
If so, tell your story here. Citizens across the country need to share their experiences so that patterns in behavior by both developers and elected officials can be EXPOSED TO THE PUBLIC!!
