THE NOVEL FOR YOUR READING ENJOYMENT: I am the "proud" owner of the 1st 2005 Volvo S40 in Utah since the dramatic body style change was unveiled in mid 2004.
The Volvo S40 has been nothing less but a mechanical nightmare since month one of taking possession. I guess I got the "beta-bucket-of-bolts"
Totally disappointed and outraged at what a Swiss bucket of Sh*& this vehicle has been for my wife and I, BUT what's even worse than the vehicle itself is the service department of Ken Garff Volvo Southtowne.
I have had this heap serviced no less than 5 times in a 16 month span due to brake issues alone. Initially I assumed it was manufacture defects in the vechicle that kept me coming back to the dealer lie a boomerang, but when your brake caliper breaks in half, locks up your disc drum and nearly collides you into an oncoming Ford F-350...Just maybe there's more to it than shi&*y Swiss craftsmanship alone.
Upon having the tow-truck guy and a mechanic look at it, they both told me the same thing almost verbatim "Who the hell did your brakes last?" With heart-felt pride I proclaimed "Ken Garff Volvo! Who else would offer such quality."
Stay with me here...this gets better! So I take the lemon back to Ken Garff Volvo Southtowne Service department (Via tow-truck and a whole day off work).
They ""fixed"" it, I drove it off the lot and less than the a few weeks later... Yep! You guessed it! Brakes sound like crap again and after nearly becoming road-kill on the 1st call we decided to take the bucket in AGAIN to get ""fixed"" just to be safe.
Ken Garff Vovlo Southtowne expressed that they would need to order a "special kit" for the breaks and that they would call us when it arrives so they could put it on.
Patiently waiting for the call a few days passed, then a few weeks, then a month. Ok so my wife calls them, "Where is this kit?!" "Well let's look....DOH! sorry Mrs. O we forgot to order it." Ahhhhh yes, what comfort we took knowing that our vehicle was in the hands of "Mechanical Einstiens" who suffered form a little harmless amnesia.
I promise I'll wrap this up, but you must know the best part. After taking the Volvo S40 in for the "umpteenth" time, having the special kit ordered and put on our vehicle. My wife picks up the vehicle, and in less than 30 minutes of driving it off the lot she notices the oil light flicking on and off, then shortly there after she notices that she has violent shaking while she goes up hill.
We call the next day to get it in a looked at because obviously they did something while working on it, they take it in, the next day we call up "Mrs. O you have a hole in your oil pan, that will be $800 bucks to fix."
Unbelievable!! I call up furious as anyone would be and after 3 days of being juggled around like a hot potato to The Service Advisor Jason Styles, Service Manager Roger Yount, The GM Ed Pasquali and 3 calls to Volvo Cars of North America John Willets.
Net Result = Volvo Cars of North America never called me back. The GM offers a $300 "Good will" gesture off an already super inflated $800.
Absolutely no accountability nor willingness to accept that while the vechicle was on the hoist, mechanic test drive, who the hell knows where, that they had any part in that puncture. And after their tremendous vehicle service track record on my vechicle, how could they possibly make a mistake like that??! Our techs are "Trained Professionals" Mr. O!
Their rebuttal is that in the 2hr time window my wife took the vechicle off the lot, that's where the puncture occurred! BS! I'm suppose to believe that my wife drove that vehicle off the lot like a bat out of hell, "Evil kinevil-ed" her way out of the dealership and anhilated the oil pan after shortly receiving the vehicle back.
KEN GARFF = RIP OFF. KEN GARFF VOLVO SOUTHTOWNE = RIP OFF. VOLVO CARS OF NORTH AMERICA, LLC. = RIP OFF! BUYER BEWARE.

Thanks for the correction Debbi. For my infraction I will now continue to buy Swiss cheese, chocolate and army knifes to make re-numerations for my ignorance.
OK give me a pass here. This was the first (and definitely LAST) Volvo I've ever bought. My wife fell in love with the S40 body style change and just had to have it. I succumbed, and without checking Volvo out online, or even more prudent checking Ken Garff out on the BBB or here at ripoffreport.com.
Don't make my mistake, I could have easily avoided much grief by reviewing all of the similar gripes against the S40 and countless complaints against Ken Garff and their "Almighty Dollar" establishment.
The most ironic thing about my entire experience with Ken Garff is hearing their asinine motto on the radio and having to read it every time I see their ads, "Ken Garff, we back up every car we sale!"
I know, I know, apparently I neglected to read the fine print. "Ken Garff, we back up every care we sale!**
**Excluding:
*The Vovlo S40
*Wreck-less hack jobs done on your brakes by "professional" service department that could result in potential vehicle fatality.
*A service department suffering from "selective amnesia".
*Punctured oil pans you may receive while our "professionally" staffed service department is fixing the last mess they did on your brakes.
*Responsibility for actions, Integrity, Accountability and pretty much anything else you'd expect from a dealer after handing over nearly $30,000 bucks.
Don't make my mistake. Due your due diligence on a dealer before you sign the dotted line.
