The 'customer service rep' cut me off even before I was able to request the store credit, demanding the reciept. I explained that this was a gift, and we didn't have a reciept. I was told that my friend had been given a gift reciept, and that there were nothing she would do without it. When I called my friend, he said that they did not get a gift reciept. I guess Kmart knows a little more than the customer.
I can understand a store policy that does not give back cash back without a reciept, but this seems a little over the top to me.
My daughter was very disapointed, and I was pissed off.
We rarely shop at Kmart because of the rude people who work there, the fact that you usually cannot even find a price for items on their shelves, and when you do find a price, it rings up differently (always for more) than the sticker on the shelf.
The funny thing is that this item was under 10 bucks. I was planning to pick up a few other things, so they lost a little more than the cost of the exchange.

Tight security doesn't always work.

A perfect example happened while I was still an employee. Someone broke into the old container they used to use for the iPods, stuffed them into a bed comforter and managed to get out of the store with them. All the iPods were security tagged, they were locked in a secure case made of thick plexiglass with three small key locks. The comforter was so thick, it rendered the security tags completely useless.
As someone else said. It's a normal store policy at nearly every store to refuse returns with no receipt because the delinquents ruined it for the good, honest people. If you don't like it, start saving your receipts or suck it up.

Excuse me, but it's not the consumer's fault either....... that people steal merchandise and try to return it for cash. Maybe you aren't doing your job correctly. Theft happens at all stores. It's Kmart's fault for not having the merchandise and security monitors that can stop a person from walking out of your store..........nooooo, you have to take it out on your customers and they have to pay because you have lousy security measures. By the way........ALL Kmarts closed down in my city a few months ago. ALL OF THEM!!! Glad yours is still open so you can continue to be rude to your customers. Probably won't be long until your store closes anyway. There was NO LOSS when KMART closed - we always have WALMART and their products are better quality and more affordable than KMART's EVER was. I can see why Kmart has lousy customer service With an attitude like yours...

I just wanted to exchange the book for one he didn't have. It even had the KMart Price Tag still on it! Cust. Svc. told me there was nothing they could do, until I asked to speak to the store manager.
After about 10 minutes of "discussion" he finally let me exchange it. This is the WORST exchange policy I have ever encountered. I couldn't believe, even with the KMart price tag still intact, they wouldn't let me exchange, at first. I am grateful that the store manager finally gave in; however, I can only imagine the number of people that have received extremely poor customer service due to this new policy. It's no wonder they're going bankrupt.
