We were contacted by this individual as a seller of ostrich feathers from South Africa. Their prices were good, but still close enough to industry standards to be believable. They presented price lists and color charts, all of which seemed very organized. We placed a $350 order with them and sent the funds via wire transfer. We are a feather vendor and do this all the time and are aware of the risks of payment via wire, but this is what all large suppliers do. After several weeks of no communication, I asked for an update.
I then received a letter stating that the "Ostrich Farmers Association South Africa" would not allow export of orders less than 45 kilos and that I should increase my order. At that point it was an obvious scam. We buy feathers from reputable vendors in South Africa weekly and there is no such organization as the "Ostrich Farmers Association". Do not send any money or waste your time dealing with Bernards Jamison or KZN Ostrich Farm. If the ostrich farm is not South African Ostrich Business Chamber or National Ostrich Processors of South Africa, then don't deal with them.
