To the OP: I believe someone else already wrote that Kaplan is accredited by North Central, which is a regional accrediting agency. The reason your degree may not be acceptable elsewhere is because all of the other regional accrediting agencies have higher standards than North Central. I was an academic advisor for many years and have completed thousands of evaluations for transfer credit (including military). Our registrar was always wary of accepting credit from any school accredited by North Central because of this. For example, most accrediting agencies require that an instructor have, at minimum, a master's degree in the subject matter (if teaching an undergraduate course). This is not necessarily true of schools accredited by North Central. Consequently, we couldn't be assured that their courses met the same degree of college-level competency as our courses.
If you read through the ROR posted here you'll see that many students complain about Kaplan and other for-profit schools. From what I can tell (and have experienced myself while posing as a potential student), these schools practice exceptionally devious methods to get one to enroll. I have posted elsewhere about this, and about the problems with financial aid.
NO school can promise that their degree is "accepted" by another school unless a written articulation agreement is in place. To other students considering college - PLEASE do your research first. Your local community college is often the best place to start.
I'm sorry this happened to you, but don't give up on your educational goals.

Let me know if you ever proceed with legal action. After seven years of working with KU, I could provide insights into those deceptive practices that you described.
Very sorry to hear that you spent so much money on a limited or usless degree.

Many credits from many schools will not transfer

The degree you got is fine. But schools are businesses so they try to honor as few transfer credits as they can to make more money. If you plan to transfer always check into it before you enroll at either school.

North Central accred. is all that is needed

Accreditation by more than one regional accrediting body is not permitted by the U.S. Department of Education. Regional accrediting bodies grant accreditation to an institution as a whole regardless of where it may operate, even locations that fall outside of a regional body's geographic scope. Additionally, the six regional accrediting bodies recognize each other's accreditations. Seeking additional regional accreditations is therefore unnecessary.
