I was called and asked to come in for an interview for the position of benefits coordinator for this company.  when I arrived there, I began to ask the receptionist behind the desk what they did, was told by another person that I would find out during the interview.  I persisted and the receptionist told me they were recruiting for managerial and administrative positions, whichever I was the best fit for.  Until I was in the in.office and told it would cost me $799.00 up front to get a license to sell insurance was I alerted that the only reason I was there was to be recruited as an insurance agent!  I want to be compensated for my wasted time and gas.  They could have told me this over the telephone! I am very upset and angry .  Apparently I am not the only one being duped like this.  There were other persons in the interviewing area who though they were being interviewed for positions such as "customer service representative".  I would like this company to quit offering jobs when all they are doing is recruiting potential insurance salespersons.

False Job Advertisement- Shame

AUTHOR: Upset - ()

I was really disappointed with being mislead in order to come into your office for an interview. Your staff suggested over the phone that you all were looking for Managers to go out in the field to let "Union Workers" know what they're rights are.  You even suggested thUrgent currently represent the "Teamsters Union." Upon arriving the interview said nothing about it. When it's really a commissioned based sales rep position door to door with no salary or reimbursements for 2 pm to 9 pm.  I amcompleting a life and health course as we speak but who.

Old work for company that deceives people to this magnitude.  Most people need a job and have to account for every dollar as it is and you mislead them over the phone to get them there wasting not only they're time but their gas as well.  Just be honest with what the job is really about over the phone just like other "ethical" companies before you really upset someone with your level of deception. Do you have an attorney that represents youre establishment and are you aware of any other lawsuits regarding your false advertisement?

Thank You!

AUTHOR: SNB1 - ()

I just wanted to thank the original poster for taking the time to post this information. It saved me valuable time, energy and gas money. I too was contacted by the Davis Corporation with regards to a Management & Associate Benefits Coordinator position. I did a brief phone screening and was given a time, date and location for the interview.

Once I hung up, I did what I always do, I researched the company so that I would be well equipped during the interview. The problem in this case is I could not find any legitimate information on the Davis Corporation. This is when the first red flag was raised. Next, I went online to the website that the gentleman claimed to have seen my resume. I could not find a posting for the alleged Management & Associate Benefits Coordinator position anywhere online. This is when the second red flag was raised. Then, 2 days after I spoke with the first guy about the position, I received another call from a woman asking me to give her a call about the very SAME role. This is when the third and final red flag was raised. Why didnt she know I already had an interview scheduled?

At this point, I was highly suspicious and figured there may be something fishy going on. I did a little more digging and came across this post! Again, thank you for sharing your experience.  I have since canceled my interview. I am currently employed and would have been highly upset if I would have wasted a vacation and or personal day to go on this interview!

If the position is insurance sales then SAY it upfront! It is very deceitful to lure people in under the guise of a Benefit Coordinator title. I have absolutely NO desire to sell anything. There is nothing on my resume that suggests I have any sales experience. The guy I spoke with told me the Davis Corporation provided benefits to union employees. I have an HR background so on the face of it, I assumed the role was a Human Resources focused position.

Mr. Davis, congratulations on all your success, but my suggestion would be to be honest and tell prospective candidates exactly what the position is. I would also suggest doing a better job at recruiting and sourcing candidates ( i.e. people who actually have sold insurance or people who WANT to sell insurance!).

No Service

AUTHOR: LightNDarkPlace - (United States of America)

Due to my cell having problems getting service while making calls to this companys Admin to confirm my interview for the following day with Mr. Davis, the Admin cancelled my interview and told me she didnt feel comfortable scheduling me due to my phone problems...!!!! (My thouts:Are you serious Ma'am? I am currently unemployed and seriously need to come in for this interview regardless of your personnal issues/) I calmly explained that I was having service problems on my phone but that I am highly interested in the position and would do everything I could to make it in the following day. She said no, that she has a bad feeling because of the phone problems I was haing and she feels that I may not show up for the interview at all. I reassured her that I would and she stated that she may give me a call at another time, but made it clear from her moaning and groaning and sarcastic phone manorisms that she would not be givig me the interview time we had already spoke of or one at all for that matter.

I just want to say Mr. Davis you have missed out on one of the best candidates for your company because your secretary cant relate to normal life situations. She needs customer service training and people skills. She probably needs some small amounts of therapy to deal with whatever "real harassment" she feels shes having over the phone from others.

I was trying to be professional and contact Mr. Davis or an HR Dept. about the situation so that we could come to an agreement but could find none that would get me around going through the Admin.

Happy Holidays ;0)

You missed the point

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (United States of America)

The point I was trying to make was that this company calls individuals under the guise of having a job for them, when they are actually attempting to recruit potential sales agents for insurance.  Thats the bait and switch part.  If they start off this fraudently, wouldn't the next logical step to be wary of the  quality of service?

This opportunity is NOT for everyone, just the right ONE!

AUTHOR: Kevin Davis - (United States of America)

First and foremost, the licensing fees are $290.00 total; if you live in Maryland, the break down is as follows: $160 for Enterprise Insurance Training School, $70.00 for the state and $60.00 once you pass your exam for a total of $290.00 If you live in the District of Columbia, it's $106.00 for your residence license all other fees apply for a total of $336.00.

Secondly, it is a State requirement not a Kevin Davis Agency requirement. The license you receive is portable meaning you can take it with you.

We Do Not mislead anyone on the opportunity. I have been with the company for 4 years; I started out as an agent and worked my way up to State General Agent in 2 years. I now own my agency.

I have been a State Director for 23 months and have built an agency with just myself and an administrator to 40 plus licensed agents. I help my community by teaching a skill it took me 18 years to cultivate as a Stock Broker and previous Mortgage Company owner. I've built my business with integrity, honesty, passion, humility and humanity. I know the struggle of individuals who are  unemployed, so through American Income Life it gives me an Opportunity to help.

While this Opportunity is not for everyone, it has changed the many lives that are now employed by the Kevin Davis Agency and American Income Life.

My advice when seeking a Job opportunity, whether in this field or not, is to invest in the research thoroughly like I did before starting with the company; if you do, you will discover that Warren Buffet the 3rd richest man in the nation owns a significant portion of Torch-mark- TMK (our parent company) on the New York Stock exchange and his affiliation alone deserves a second look. We also own and are affiliated with Globe Insurance, American Heritage, just to name a few.

We deal with unions; in addition we're a 100 percent unionized so there is no cold calling nor door to door type of services whatsoever on our part. This separates our company from 90 percent of the insurance companies out there because unions request their benefits from us and we deliver said benefits to them. If the individual or family is in need more insurance they buy it, if they don't there is no pressure. We have thousands of clients to see during open enrollment.

Should there be any additional questions, or you'd like to discus the opportunity itself more extensively, please feel free to contact my company out your earliest convenience.

#8 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Not entirely true

AUTHOR: alias - (United States of America)

That's not entirely true. The Davis group is hiring for managerial positions; however, in order to achieve managerial status within the company you have to work from the bottom up, it's a pretty quick and easy thing to do. Secondly, while the Davis Group is an insurance company affiliated with American Income Life which is a 100% unionized company, the costs for the license does not whatsoever cost that much. The licensing process is state/government mandatory so all funds and costs go to the state and the state of Maryland does require 60 hours worth of training. Outside of the Davis Group, prices for the classes itself is 290, to have a license in Maryland the price is $59.00; however through the Davis Group our training class is $160 and to receive a license is still 59.00, that doesn't add up to 799, does it? It's no different from a lawyer who if wanting to be a notary public has to pay to receive the title, or a person wishing to be certified in human resources who has to pay to be certified. In addition, the money is not ask to be payed up front, and the funds is reimbursed to new hires upon completion.

Thirdly, the positions do entail customer service, though that's not the title.

It's not that bad of a company, insurance field in general is a multi-trillion dollar arena and growing especially when everyone needs life insurance, so many other business avenues are faltering slowly, those that aren't don't necessarily earn the money in a rapid rate nor offers the same amount of freedom that an insurance company does. Davis Group is just a job opportunity to those looking for one, if it's not something your open to, understandable but why turn down a possible career opportunity that could be very lucrative, long standing, and a great source of networking,  when so many other business avenues are struggling?
