This is the email I sent to the management on Valencia Kia.

Dear Valencia Kia Management,

My name is Scott. Over the past two days I have been trying to purchase a Kia Rio 5-door. I needed to get a vehicle within a few days because I am starting a new job. I wanted to share my experience with you.

Let me preface by saying that I dont want to mention any names. My objective is not to get anyone in trouble nor is it to get a good deal on a car, but rather I think it is important to share my consumer experience with you and others online looking for a reputable car dealer.

There are 3 complaints that I have as a consumer that you may want consider and address.

 Complaint 1:

1.) On March 27, 2012 I called the Valencia Kia dealership to inquire about a 2012 Kia Rio 5-door. I spoke with a gentleman who asked me to fill out an online credit approval form. He then asked me to call him after I had completed the application, which I did. He told me that he would check our application and call me in 5 minutes. 24 hours later I had not heard back from him. The next day I called the finance department at the dealership to inquire.
I got an answering machine. 2-3 hours later I had not heard back. I called and asked for a new sales person and they introduced me to Mr. Franklin.  I know I said I would not mention any names but I have to say that Mr. Franklin is an outstanding salesman. His professionalism is unprecedented. Mr. Franklin told me that he would look up
our credit application and give me a call back in 10 minutes. As promised he did just that. He told me that I would need to come into the dealership to discuss the details. I agreed and came to the dealership a couple hours later.

Complaint 2:

It took more than 2 hours to find out what our interest rate and the price of the car would be. In addition, it seems that the sales managers were not willing to negotiate beyond the MSRP. It was either MSRP or no deal. In my experience buying several new vehicles I have never paid the MSRP. There was no negotiation. I understand that the vehicle would have to be shipped from another dealership but there were several vehicles of the same make within 40 miles of the Valencia dealership.

Complaint 3:

While I waited the 15-30 minutes between the sales person talking to the sales manager and coming back to me I took a break outside.  This back and forth seemed endless and it was all over a few hundred dollars. When I came back into the building I went to the doorway of the sales managers office. There I heard one of the sales managers, in a firm and loud voice say Get the fu*king car. At this point I was glad I didnt have my 5-year old son with me. I would expect to
hear such language at a downtown used car dealership but not at a well established dealership in Valencia.

Again I want to say that I am not trying to get anyone in trouble and I am not trying to get a special deal on a car. As the matter of fact my experience has encouraged me to look at other manufactures and or buying a car online using no-haggle services.

Please email or call me.

Thank you,

Scott

In response to Mr. Novice:

Let me explain my rational as to possibly clear up any confusion or questions you may have.

I have test driven the 2012 Kia Rio5. I have also taken special care to research as many aspects of the vehicle itself as possible, including: The industry reviews of the vehicle from sources like JD Power and associates, Edmunds, Car and Driver, Consumer Reports and others.

I also carefully reviewed the pricing of the vehicle. I used sources such as: Edmunds, TrueCar, Consumer Reports and various others. In looking at the pricing I evaluated the dealer cost, factory invoice, market average, and MSRP. I also used the California DMV new car registration tool to find out exactly what my registration fees would be.

That being said I knew exactly what I was looking for and exactly the price I was willing to pay. I made this clear and upfront at the dealership in the beginning. Based on truecars dot com information alone it shows that the target price for the vehicle I wanted is $15,005. The Kia Valencia Dealership would not budge on the MSRP price of more than $15,500.

Lastly, I know that using a service like CarsDirect they can get the car for $15,077.

The point is that I wanted to give my local Kia dealership the opportunity to sell me a car. I am aware that some of the taxes paid if I bought the car at the Valencia Kia would benefit local causes. My wife and I are highly involved in our community and would love to contribute in any way possible.

However, I was not willing to work with salesmen that said they would call me in five minutes and not ever call me back. I am not willing to spend hours inside a dealership in an attempt to be broken down into paying much more than a car is worth and finally, I can get over the language that was used in the dealership. I am human. I have said that word many times before. I just never said it at work where customers could hear it. So while it was a bit unprofessional in my opinion I could have gotten over that.

Since this report seems to be getting some attention I though this might be a good time to bring up some other points for consideration.

While at the dealership I was told that our interest rate would be between 2.9% and 6%. When I asked which was it, 2.9% or 6% I was never given a clear answer. After being there for 2 hours the final numbers came out before I was told we couldnt make a deal. I was told my payment on a 72 month loan would be between $270.00 and over $300.00. Wait a minute. Where did these numbers come from?

Keep in mind that I already know I can get the car for $15,077. Tax = $1,319 and the registration is only $143.00 for a total out the door price of $16,539. At 3% I know I can get the car for $251/month. By the way I was told that the registration would be close to $400.00. Use the DMV new car registration tool and you can see for yourself.

$300.00 a month? What? Thats $50.00 more a month. Thats $3,600 over the life of the loan. I think it was best I cut my losses as time wasted and went home.

After I got home I gave the salesman a call and expressed my complaints around the whole situation. I then told him that I was considering writing an email and sharing those concerns. I said that if a sales manager would like to call and discuss this with me I would be happy to talk to them.  Hours went by with no call. So I sent the email and posted my complaints here as well.

On Wednesday evening I got a call from a sales manager after I had sent my email. Like I mentioned before he was apologetic and I appreciated that. He told me he would call me Thursday.

It is Friday morning and I havent heard back.

I will keep it updated.

"In my experience buying several new vehicles I have never paid the MSRP."

Did your vast experience direct you to submit a credit application for a car you never saw, did not know the asking price of, and had not test-driven?

In response to Roberts comments:

Robert,

Ripp Off Report is a forum where consumers can file complaints, reviews, scams, lawsuits and fraud. The key term in the last sentence is"Complaint." A complaint is what I posted. I never said I was ripped off. As for wanting to haggle and now looking at using a no- haggle online service I said that i have bought several cars and that I have never paid the MSRP. There are several online services that guarantee to get you a car below MSRP. One of them I am looking at now can get the exact vehicle I am looking for at $500.00 of MSRP. I don't know about you but $500 is a lot of money and I wouldn't have to sit in a dealership for 2 hours negotiating over it.

Follow up on my email that I sent to Kia Valencia:

I did get a call after I sent my email to the dealership. The gentleman that I spoke with was very apologetic about my experience and asked to earn my business back. I appreciated that.

I will keep this updated.

One of your complaints is that they wouldn't "haggle" off of the MSRP, so to solve that problem you are going to use a "no-haggle" service?

So with that one and the rest of your complaints, still trying to figure how you were "Ripped Off"?
