Long story short, the email to tell me when UPS would come never came, UPS never came, and over the last two weeks I have called half a dozen times trying to sort this out. Every time I call it's like I am reporting the problem for the first time. The last time I called the representative promised to email me a label so I could take the package to UPS myself without being charged the mailing fee, but while the survey to rate the rep came, no label ever came.
Meanwhile, my credit card was stolen and I had to cancel it so Kmart said they can't give me my money back, only a gift card for their store. They got cash from me, but I'm supposed to take a gift card for a store I now loathe?
This sums it up: KMART IS INEPT FROM START TO FINISH AND CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS ARE BEYOND INCOMPETENT!!!!!! BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE and do your shopping elsewhere. If my review is not enough to steer you clear of this crooked outfit, check out the 17,000 plus complaints the Better Business Bureau has on Kmart.com!"

It is fairly standard practice for companies to require you to pay for anything they ship out. This is because people in the past(I am not saying you would do this), would have the item reshipped out but still keep the item that was sent by mistake. Thus the store is now out that item. Stores got wise to this and started to then require payment for any item shipped out, then refunding the incorrect amount once the other item was returned.
As for the credit card, that is an entirely separate issue. First it is the policy of the Credit Card companies to not allow stores to refund CASH for items purchased. The reason is really a simple one. That cash refund would then technically become a "Cash Advance" on the card and would fall under a different(higher) fee and Interest terms. With some creditors they either don't allow it at all or have a lower "Cash Advance" limit than their regular Credit Limit. So unfortunately since you don't have that card anymore the only choice would be to a store credit, but you may want to see if you can use it for any of the other stores they own.
