Are you serious??? Kohl's is one of the biggest retail corporate businesses in the U.S. and they don't have a termination policy! Wowwww. This can be verified by looking at a Kolh's Store Associate Handbook, which I was provided with upon hire in October 2008. What does this mean? Well, in a nutshell, no termination policy equals an abuse of authority by upper management in the following ways:
- unaccountability by upper management of decisions to terminate employees
- no investigative procedure for turnover of employees in training
- unprofessional conduct by upper management
- unjustifiable abuse of upper management authority
- different rules for different people
- lack of consistency and professionalism
- lack of training verification by Kohls Corporate Human Resources
- lack of kohls integrity and mission statements
- lack of training by Kohls upper management of software leading to lack of training for new associates (blind leading the blind)
- total discrepancy of Kohls of mission statement, integrity, values, guarantees, and training procedure which equals false representation
- total lack of company credibility
- not only welcoming the door to internal harassment and discriminism but condoning the inefficiency of internal loyalty and values.
- losing potential faithful associates with a good work ethic and maintaining staff just as corrupt as management who have no respect for professionalism
I mean, the list could go on and on. . . . .its just plain and simple. . . so sad!!!
OMG, is there anyone in the corporate setting that really cares. . . .so sadly pathetic!!!!!

You must have done something to deserve being let go. There are policies and procedures we have to follow in firing someone. Sounds like you are just a disgruntled employee to me. Get over it and move on!! Happy face!!

Kohls on the west coast has these same issues, however in California it is unlawful for a company to fire someone without warning, and that's what Kohls is doing. No training, safety problems, abuse of power, everything! This is going to cost them billions in lawsuits, I just checked with an attorney today and it is a sure win in the lawsuit arena. And you're completely right, Management just keeps corupt employees and gets rid of those that are honest and hard working. It is shocking. You feel as if you have entered an upside down world when going to work for them. I wonder now if this is national store policy or if Kohls Corp is greedy and stupid or just plain doesn't care. I know that Kohls Stores do not care about the people employed by them, contrary to the mission statement. Oh, you got an employee handbook? We have never seen one of those!

Actually, if you had read the handbook (obviously you didn't) you would know that there IS a procedure for making termination decisions. I'll admit that the handbook doesn't go into the details of what that procedure is, but I'm sure your Personnel Manager would have been willing to discuss any specific questions you had about the policy. And like most companies, Kohl's uses a probationary period (90 days) during which you can be fired for any or no reason. Generally if an employee is going to suck at his/her job or cause other problems, they will show it in the first 90 days. The probationary period gives Kohl's the power to deal with it before things get too out of hand. Yeah, it has the potential for abuse, but based on Susan's rant, I'm betting that in her case she either wasn't good at her job or was seen as "high maintenance," both of which make for justifiable probationary firings.

There is a termination checklist that must be satisfied in order for someone to be terminated. You obviously didn't read this in the handbook, nor do you understand that when you're under 90 days, you can be fired for just about anything.

You have left something out -

I have dealt with poor performers who blame everyone and everything else for the problems they themselves have created. ITS ALWAYS SOMEONE ELSES FAULT!

You have issues with Kohl's, but no where in your report did you say what they happened.
Reading between the lines I could guess that you were hired in October 2008, this is November so you are probably still in your probationary period. You made a mistake that either got you written up or fired and you are upset.
