Search Tips- The short answer is YES. You need to keep ALL of this documentation as long as they can "come back to you". This is generally the length of the Credit Reporting Period or your State's Statute of Limitation which ever would be longer.
The fact is that just because they removed it from your credit report does not mean that the debt goes away. So unfortunately without a letter you have no proof that you settled the account.
Now does this mean that you need to pay them? You need to send them a Debt Validation Letter that basically requires them to "validate" the debt to you. Until they do that they can not take any other action to attempt to collect the debt.
