We are having the same problem. 

My husband has a lifetime membership with Bally's since 1999.  The local LA Fitness in our area stated that they are not honoring Bally's memberships (he could still use Bally's clubs but not LA Fitness unless he switched his membership).

Here are the contradictions:

His bank statement shows that LA Fitness are deducting his monthly dues.
If they are not honoring his membership how is it that they are still taking his money every month and he is allowed to use Bally's and needs to switch a membership that does not exist according to LA Fitness.

He was also told that in order to switch his membership to LA Fitness that he would need to pay a 249.00 start up fee... for what...we have no idea.  I suspect to pay for the cost of acquisition.

He spoke with the manager at the local Bally's and they told him that the other club (LA Fitness) was totally wrong.  He was issued a new LA Fitness membership card right on the spot without doing anything.  Billing remains the same.

I think there trying to make money off of anyone who does not question. 

I would advise that anyone with a Bally's membership go to your local Bally's and have THEM change your card over to LA Fitness.  If you go to LA Fitness to do it is when you will get the song and dance.
