After relocating to a new area, While I was settling in I called a local fitness center to inquire about a membership. I was told that I needed to come in for any details. When I arived I was greeted very nicely, and then came all the lies. I
was told that the membership can be cancelled at any time, I was told that because I lived a distance from the fitness center that I could pre-enroll to join a new center being built much closer to where I lived. The billing was to start when the new club opened and I started going to the gym several months later.

About a month later I noticed that Anytime Fitness was trying to charge my account for fees, when I called the fitness center they said that they had made a mistake and would not charge anymore unitl the new club opened. At that time
I asked to cancel my membership ( They did say anytime right) so then the manager stated she could not do that but she would call the owner of the club and get back to me.

I never received any call or notice, I called back and was told that they would credit my account. I then asked to cancel my membership for a second time, and it was never done. The billing continued and every time they went into the
account it over drafted my account and cost me bank fees, they also use a third party billing service called ABC Financial.

So when your account at the bank gets hit for overdraft fees then ABC Financial sends you a letter, with more fees threatening collection and placing derogatory info on your credit. I called several more times and went there personally to
cancel my membership.

Mr. Brian S. Patrick handed me back my contract three times and said if you are going to litigate this then go do it, but he would not cancel my contract. This has been a real nightmare, just from a simple membership at a local gym.

Mr Patrick stood there and boasted he had 1200 facilities as he proudly stated in a pompous and demeaning manner, I then challenged Mr. Patrick and told him that Largo Fitness LLC owned two location in this area and were part of a franchise.

Largo Fitness Dba Anytime Fitness is run by petty crooks, they can't cancel a membership upon several requests - in order to bill you the monthly fee of $14.00. This never adds up because after fees and charges etc, ABC financial
debits your account for more than the contracted amount.

I received an email after telling anytime fitness that I was contacting a lawyer.Mr. Brian S. Patrick  from Anytime fitness stated in that email that they would cancel the membership if I paid $80.00 and made it seem as if they were doing me a favor. I never used the facilities one time - never , ever. I am out the money the charged my bank account several times, and they add insult to injury by asking for more money.

Stay clear of this place they prey on the consumer and strong arm you into a membership contract promising things they never deliver. I am organizing a class action suit against Anytime Fitness and Largo Fitness, anyone else who may have encountered the same or simular issue please contact me. I have found complaints across the U.S. on this website claiming the same or simular practices. Enough is enough - they must be held accountable.

When I signed with my boyfriend, they said it would save us money to do it on the same contract, so we did to save money. I specifically asked several times about removing him from my contract and they said I could at anytime and I would not be locked into him on my contract. I stressed over and over this because we were already having problems. So we did a joint contract. Well I emailed today to remove him off my contract and they told me I would have to pay the next 2 months, because of the 60 day cancelationl notice in the contract, I advise I was not canceling my contract only removing an individual...they said I can transfer his to another person and then they would remove it. I said no, either remove him or I am cancelling both and having my bank stop payment on their debit to my bank account and I will take my business else where.  Going there tomorrow to do in person and then I will see what they do...if they don't remove him with no fee to me...I would be willing also to join a class action suit, I am tired of being ripped off! Times are hard enough and this guy already stole thousands of dollars from me, I am not paying another dime for him...period...

ANYTIME FITNESS ADDS LYING IN REBUTTALS TO THIER LIST OF TRICKS

AUTHOR: Michael - (United States of America)

How sad that not even in a rebuttal your company can be honest. I never raised my voice, threatened or otherwise anyone - I did however let you know that I was going to an attorney with the matter.

Your 30 DAY written cancellation explanation is purely BS, I have a contract with your reps signature on it which clearly states "Prefers to pay at club"it and an email from your company acknowledging the membership was a "Pre-Enrollment" to a club that was under construction - LOL. You cant even lie correctly, with all the practice you have cheating customers - all of you should be pros at it, by now.

I am not alone - are they all wrong too? It's a separate website from this one - two websites with people saying the same thing about anytime fitness.

You can have the $21.38 or $14 dollars a month you petty crook, I can overcome the loss. I feel really bad for all the seniors, and other people that might need that money for something important. Let me see...$21.00 X 100 people that's $2100.00 a month or $25,200.00 a year you steal collectively from other people who can't cancel a membership. Whether written notice or verbal you have confirmed that you were notified - wise one.

I am still getting billed every month. And so are all these people : go to the website yourself and explain that one - I would love to hear the rest of the BS you are going to let fly.

This does not merit any further time from me, best of luck you petty crook. Next time at least pass out ski masks to your reps, so that the public knows what to expect up front before they sign up for a membership.

We are writing this rebuttal to the report from Michael.

We have never misled any member. Our members can chose between a month-to-month membership or a 12 month membership. Obviously it is a lower monthly rate for a 12 month committment. We are very close to Indain Rocks Beach and we have quite a few people that are only here for a short time and cannot commit to a 12 month membership. However, it is the individuals choice as to what membership is best for them.

It is very simple. If you have a month-to-month membership, you can cancel anytime with a 30-day written notice. There is no fee to cancel the membership, again, just written notice. However, if you choose the 12 month committment membership, at the lower rate, you have to complete the 12 month committment.

Each member must sign and authorize the membership and the cancellation policy. It is very clear when the membership starts and ends. It is very clear when the monthly payments begin and what day they will be billed to the members. Our members have access to all locations in our network of facilities.

This member had access to all clubs....2 months after initiating the membership we received a call that the club he joined was "too far away" and he did not want to start until the "new club opened" that was closer to him. This individual has 3 other locations of Anytime Fitness within 5 miles of his residence. Still, we refunded all money for monthly dues and started his membership at the new facility. We recieved a visit at the new facility 3 months after opening the new club that he "wanted to cancel his membership." We explained that he bought a 12 month membership and it could not be cancelled during that time period. We have already made changes to his membership to try and accomodate his concerns. Our first concern is that he is paying for something and not making the effort to use the membership.  We offered 4 complimentary personal training sessions to help get him motivated and back on track to his fitness goals. We offered to transfer the membership to anyone he would like, with no additional fees. All of this meant nothing to Michael. Michael was very upset and started to yell. Michael cursed, threatened the staff, and yelled that he was going to litigate the matter if we did not cancel his membership.

After Michael left, we immediately sent him a letter and e-mail offering a discounted early termination fee of 25% of the membership agreement and we would cancel his membership.  We feel as if we have made great effort to accomodate Michael and his concerns. This posting is the only response we have received since his episiode at the facility.

We will make every effort to accomodate any of our members. As a consumer you have the choice of what facility and what type of membership is best for you. If you have any feelings or concerns about joining a facility, let them know! A facility should work with you to overcome your concerns and make you feel encouraged and motivated. We feel as if we have done everything we could to accomodate Michael.
