Larry Rodkin of Lawrence of Florida is being sued by Derrick Hadley of Black Swan Special Events in the Broward County Civil Court Division for with holding payment of $900 for The Motowners live performance that took place on March 23rd, 2013 at Rocking on The Bay in Naples Florida. The case is set for a pre trial hearing on October, 23, 2013. I will post an update as to the outcome of the pre trial hearing. Listed below are the specifics surrounding this issue of non payment.
My group; The Motowners performed on March 23rd, 2013 at Rocking on The Bay in Naples Florida from 7PM to 9PM. We performed two hours straight with no intermission. After allowing us to perform. Larry Rodkin on Lawrence of Florida decided to only pay $900 or my $1800 contract. His reasoning behind this breach of contract was that he said my sound was scratchy and distorted. Click on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QezCbmG3fNc or simply type in Rockin on The Bay Motown music on you tube and anyone with any common sense will hear for themselves and see that there is no issue with the sound as people are dancing.
These types of convoluted and unethical practices by event planing companies like Lawrence of Florida is what gives the entertainer client and talent agency industry a bad name. Lawrence of Florida entered into an agreement to book my band and other bands for the Rocking on The Bay series when in fact he isn't licensed in the State of Florida to entered into such a contract in the first place unless he was my manager or a license agent with a Talent Agents # in the State of Florida. The event planner who was in charge of this event was Mike Randal of Mcquaid Marketing in Naples. If Larry Rodkin of Lawrence of Florida was the official event planner or coordinator for the concert series; only then would he be in his legal right to hire and enter into a contract to hire different bands. He was not; so therefore he was booking bands without a Talent Agency license in the State of Florda.
A formal investigation is being conducted by The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulations in regards to my complaint that I filed with that department. The outcome of that investigation will be posted once I find out if any charges will be filled against Lawrence of Florida.
In closing, I hope that any other unlicensed agents who are designated under the catergory of desination management companies, wedding planners, and event planners don't pull this stunt. You will draw attention to yourself and find yourself in civil court for not paying artist when services were rendered and possible fines by the Florida Department of Busiess and Professional Regulations.
