Rev. Leslie F. Steel appears to be a bon vivante, enthusiastic small town vicar, working away, visiting away, so wonderful, one would think he excretes rose petals. But he hides the fact he and his wife, Elaine Hesse Steel, began their romance while each was still married to another, thereby, destroying two families. In fact, Steel was a marriage guidance councellor to his current Missus' marriage. As a result, Steel was forced to resign his Dunedin Anglican Church vicar's position and in time, his current wife fled her position as Headmistress of St. Hilda's to flee to Geneva to be CEO of the YWCA. It was a headline article in the scadalsheet, the TRUTH, that forced them to marry. They had lived in sin for some years in Geneva until the Board of the YWCA forced the issue.
