My wife had been unable to utilize the heath club for several months and decided to cancel her membership and avoid the monthly charges to the credit card.  When she called to cancel, she was told she had to come in to do so.  She informed them that the whole reason she was cancelling is that the club was too far and it was no longer convenient for her to come in.  If she was unable to come in, they requested a certified letter.

We send them a letter and a fax cancelling our service on the 12th of the month and informed them that if they charged our account again we would dispute the charge and file complaints online.  Well the 1st of the month came around again, and guess what?  They are still billing us.  We have disputed the charge and put a block on the card to prevent them from billing us again in the future.

So buyer beware, it's all friendly on the way in, but if you want to leave, they will make you jump through hoops and continue to bill your credit card.
