My mother recently passed away and had been paying for the burial insurance policy since 1988 and 2002. With the payments she was making monthly totaled $14,991.58. But when she passed away, we were informed by the funeral home (Hardwick & Sons Funeral Home, Chattanooga, TN) and the Lincoln Heritage Insurance Company (Agent Jim Greer, Chattanooga) my mother only had $4300 to available to bury her with. Something is truly wrong with this system and how they are allowed to get away with this.
This is so disgusting for such a blatant rip-off of an elderly person. If you have elderly family members that have these type policies, no matter how independent they think they are, insist on reviewing them.
I'm not sure if anything can be done...and even if it is not... people should be warned.
