A door-to-door salesperson came to our VA apartment on a rainy, overcast day this winter. I have worked in sales and know how frustrating it can be, so I decided to hear him out and let him in out of the rain. He was around our age (in his 20s) and seemingly friendly. He was trying to win a contest as "top salesperson" for a paid vacation.

Once inside, he gave us a list of real magazines. We chose one that interested us, and he told us for a year subscription it would be $56. He explained he could waive a portion of the total if it stayed beneath his limit for the day. He said he had only waived so much on that day and that he could make it $36 for us, saving us $20.

He was quite aggressive and repetitive, very pushy. I overlooked it and figured it was still a nice thing to help someone out who has a less-than-glamorous job. We told him we would like him to follow up with us and let us know when our magazine order had been placed, and when we could expect our first issue.

He happily agreed and told us he would contact us when he turns his collections in at the end of the "shift". Then provided us with a legitimate-looking receipt, with instructions on how to cancel our check (though refund fees would be deducted for cancellation).

After hearing nothing from Conner MacDonald (the supposed salesperson) for over 3 days, we figured he had "forgotten" and perhaps "misplaced" our order. We chose to cancel, not knowing where our money had really gone. Even still, Panlamin LLC deposited the check which was then deducted from our account. No confirmation of our refund attempt has been made, and it has been nearly a month.

We are now pursuing any way to receive our money back, though not very much, it's the principle. Dishonest salespeople are criminals! Scheming and lying to young families like ourselves, or anyone for that matter is no way to form a career or positive lifestyle.

If you have any information, or personal experience with this fraudulent "company" please let us know. We would love to know where to go from here, and how to stop this from happening to other families and individuals.

Hello I also live in VA and about 2-3 weeks ago I had the same thing happen to me. I was at home doing my class work as I get a knock at the door, the young man told me he was selling magazines to when I trip, it was boys against girls. It was cold so I let him inside. He talked me into buying 2 magazines I really didn't have the money but I also had a job donig sales for the Kirby company so I know how it is. After I paid no later than 5 mins after he left I called and cancelled, the lady on the phone stated it would be cancelled and to send in the receipt within 3 post mark days. I have yet to recieve anything. Yesterday I called to confirm my cancellation, and a man answers the phone with a "ummm hello" I asked is the magazine company he then said "it kinda is and it kinda isn't what do you need" I then said I was just calling to make sure my order got cancelled because I haven't recieved my refund, he then said "I don't have nothing to do with that and gave me another number to call, which I did but it was turned off. The next thing I did was call my credit card company and reported a fraud, come to find out the money was taken out in colorado springs and not Arizona where the "magazine company" is located. They ( my credit company) is now investigating this matter. Let me know if you have any luck.
