Passed Through Tupper Many Times

I have a place in St Lawrence County (another in-breed part of Upper NY State) and have passed through Tupper Lake many many times on my way home. This place is run down!
There is a really big plant of some sort that just sat and rotted away for years. There are so many young girls running around with baby carriages. While the lake is beautiful and a lot of the homes on the lake are very nice, there are so many motels that have gone out of business. There use to be a ski slope there, which has been closed for a long long time. Tupper does not like growth. It is NOTHING like the surrounding, beautiful lakes in the Park. Half an Hour away you have Long Lake which is quiet and nothing at all like Tupper. Lake Placid to the East is really nice.
If Tupper Lake would stop Inbreeding, like much of Upstate NY little towns, I bet the town would get better.

I spent my High School years in the Adirondacks and as beautiful as the scenery is, the people give it a bad name. Some of the biggest white trash lives there and I have lived in 10 other states and it still is amongst the worst. I think it starts with the kids and the fact is in a protected park like the Adirondacks and the neo fascist APA you can't have a lot of the jobs that you can other places. These kids do not have a lot of options in getting out other than the military or college and believe me the school systems of most of the town in the park are Forrest Gump level teaching so you can pretty much rule out higher education.
Add to all that, you have a place that is based entirely on tourism for dollars. All this is great when the economy is good, but look at what happens when things are bad for a while. Does this mean everyone in Tupper is bad, or Saranac Lake or Old Forge or wherever? No, really all it means is the potential for hopelessness runs higher than places where kids can grow up and stay because their is a future there.
Add to all that, you have a place that is based entirely on tourism for dollars. All this is great when the economy is good, but look at what happens when things are bad for a while. i've seen a batch of nasty comments 'bout tupper, 1st. if you'v never been there
how can you know? the adirondack park is the largest in the usa. it has 6,000,000
acres. i've lived here for several years,moving from woodstock ny(rents exploded in
woostock). the small adirondack towns are very quiet, literly nested in the park.
very close to beautiful lakes,rivers and stream.they'v got excellent fishing, the
coolest ,cleanest air in the lower 48 states(yes it is equal to the rockies,i've been their to) the water is very clean, if your willing to walk a bit (ususlly only a few miles off road)you can catch native brook trout,even a few square tail brookies.
tupper is 20miles from saranac lake ,it's very fresh air was thought to "cure" tb.
i can testify to the air quality, i had respitory trouble it's gotten better in only
2 years. to those who point there finger at the adirondacks i would offer this.

I may be wrong, but I can't imagine any town / village in the U.S. having such a pervasive degenerate populace.
I truly think this is the brain-child of a tourism marketing genius. I'll bet the tourism generated by these postings really perk up the bookings at the local lake lodges.

You have no idea as to whom you delighted so I will tell you, it is the one and only Jim. I am proud to keep posting true stories about Tupper Lake, as well as some photos. I will include new pics really soon. Tupper Lake has a lot to offer to a disease-free out of towner who can spice up the gene pool with a couple of shots.
Back to Mark...don't you get a vendors discount from your suppliers? Or would that mean that you'd have to write checks...pay bills on time...maybe even a little earlier than NET 10?
Just a suggestion to lower your overhead and improve your business strategy. You know, this way you wouldn't have to steal construction supplies.

Ok I can not handle this any longer I am calling the realtors now, I am putting my house and land up for sale and I am moving to Tupper Lake. There is just to much fun going on there to sit here and pay $45.00 dollars a month for internet service when I can experience this in person.

Hollywood should just come in and buy the entire town. Hold a meeting and explain to the citizens that they now work for the show. I just have to know how this guy keeps his business going. I mean there's only what 3900 people in this town? Haven't they all learned the hard way or heard about this guy by now? Is the court system so corrupt in this town/county that no one is able to get a judgement against him? Not to paint anyone in a bad light here but I sure would never take seriously a bid from someone who can't even spell the basics of the English language. And if I did decide to risk it and take the bid I sure as heck would ask around town before I would hire him. With only 3900 folks in town and all the complaints I've read on here I would think I would bump into at least one person who worked for him and got stiffed or hired him and got stiffed. Not to be rude but come on folks, wake up and smell the coffee. To SOME extent if you get taken you have to look at your behavior as you hired him and determine where you were at SOME fault in being duped. But, water under the bridge. For those that did get taken, don't give up. Keep pressing the court system, the district attorney and the news stations. Sooner or later he will get what's coming to him.

I am compelled to make a few comments while my loving wife is insisting I do not do so.
When we moved here, Mr Dewyea took money from us to do a list of additions for our new home. This was a big mistake; I wish we had known about this website, we would have saved a lot of money. We paid him thousands of dollars and got nothing for our money, just a big mess and nothing was ever fixed. I would be more specific, but I fear retaliation. Mr Dewyea would never figure out who I am, as there are many we have met who suffered the same experience from this con, poor excuse for a man. To add insult to injury, Mr Dewyea came back to our home and removed all the building materials we purchased in Plattsburg New York. We were recently told by another resident that Mr Dewyea brought materials to their home and hours later the rightful owner came pounding on their door demanding the materials back. Even though they had a paid receipt from Mr Dewyea, they returned the materials. The Tupper Lake Police Department said they would not do anything, that it was a civil matter. We were later told the officer was a drinking buddy of Mr Dewyea.
The reason why I was compelled to make my thoughts known today, recently, right in front of his child Mark Dewyea was parked on Park Street near Stewart's when we walked by with our baby stroller we could smell pot, if that is not enough that he is doing these drugs with his baby, Mark has no car seat that we could see. Recently we saw him speed by drunk with his child and again no car seat. Why won't the police do anything? I am not from Tupper Lake, I am a Sunmount (a Mental Institution) draftee from down state.
My friends from down-state New York think I live in Jerry Springervill New York and give me a hard time in a joking way.
I must say, if all small towns are like this one, this could be one of the many reasons why our country is going to hell. The schools here are a joke, many (not all) of the teachers are inferior. The police department along with state troopers are a joke. The slumlords are the rich ones of this town with absolutely no pride. I am told they want the property to stay run down so there taxes remain low.
As ridiculous as some of these reports seem about Tupper Lake, I must say, they are entertaining but reveal many ripoffs and should be a wake up call to government officials in New York, if not our Federal Government. This town has some very serious issues.
Recently I went to a party with local Tupper Lake friends where Jack (I think spelling is) Delehanty the local district attorney / prosecutor was smoking pot outside with others, including a high school teacher my wife and I knew. Not surprising.
Tupper Lake is the most beautiful country my wife and I have ever seen and we love living here for that reason. We mind our own business and our friends we feel are some of the few normal people from Tupper Lake and are nothing like those you read about, which we feel is a true reflection of Tupper Lake. Maybe property values will go up and becuase of the worldwide publicity on the Internet, Tupper Lake will become a real Tourist attraction.

Thanks for your thoughtful response. As to why I left Good Ole Tupper, a little thing called the "Draft" got in the way of my plans to make a career in Tupper Lake. After 21 years in the Navy even a slug can learn a trade. In my case it was something there is little use for in Tupper so I followed the money. I still go home as often as I can, feel bad about the hard times that have befallen my home town, but am heartened by the many positive things that are on the horizon. Who knows? Maybe someday I will go back to brave the 35 degree below zero winters and black flies in the spring! It IS a very beautiful part of the country and if your into hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities, it is an outstanding place to raise a family. That is, IF you can find a decent job and weather the slings and arrows of the internet. ;-) I am hooked on this site and laugh right along with the rest of you...even though it hurts a little at times. Fair winds and following seas to you all.

What kind of place is Tupper Lake? I mean it sounds pretty but I am sure I do not want to live there. It sounds like everyone is related to eachother.
Hehe, after reading about the Mark Dewyae character he sounds like Otis from the Andy Griffith Show. Does he have his own cell that is reserved just for him? He needs to spend more time there.

I'm so sorry that my rebuttal response caused you to feel you have to defend the upstanding citizens of your town. If anyone really thinks that each Tupper Laker is an alcoholic, in-breed, disease carrying, mis-spelling, logic lacking, social deviant they should be ashamed of themselves. If that were true, the whole town would have imploded upon itself and fallen into a hole in the earth by now. As we are still hearing about "Jim's" STDs it is obvious this hasn't happened as of yet, so there must be enough individuals that God deems righteous calling Tupper Lake home to keep the rest of the heathen around.
One question that I do have is, if you like Tupper Lake, your family is there, and you are saddened by the verbal abuse that your town has taken on this forum, why did you decide to leave town? Why not increase the credibility of your home town with your advanced academic "degress"?

Some of us grew up in small towns and realize though the names have been changed, the stories are all the same no matter what part of the country you're in. Former Tupper Laker in Defense of the GOOD people in Tupper Lake

As a former Tupper Laker with roots in the Adirondacks that go back to the 1700s I have been reading, with much amusement and some sadness, this and other threads on The Rip-Off Report. I know and in some cases, am related to individuals featured in this forum. There is a lot of truth to the observations of the Editor and of the outside world with regards to a certain segment of the Tupper Lake population.
However, as many have pointed out, most of the citizens of this community are hard working, God fearing folk, that have better things to do than sling mud at the town and each other. They are uniformly embarrassed by most of these stellar individuals who are determined to live down to everyone's opinion of them.
I am a product of the Tupper Lake school system, have advanced academic degress, am successful in business, and can spell. There are others like me but they are either oblivious to this site, are too busy with their lives to care, of would rather not respond.
I am writing this response for them and in defense of a town that, although flawed in many ways, has a basic decency and many of the advantages (and to be fair, disadvantages) of small towns everywhere. - Former TLHS Lumberjack and proud of it!

I may have a strange idea of entertainment, but I would love to visit Tupper Lake on vacation. Nothing would be more interesting then to watch the citizens of Tupper Lake interact with each other without the inconvenience of having to type a response. As for the guy from Iowa slinging mud at the Tupper Lakers... I've been to Iowa. The gene pool might be a little deeper in Cedar Rapids, but for the most part the state is populated by small town individuals nearly as backwards as Tupper Laker's. The only thing that sets them apart is that Iowans can spell.

I've spent a few years in Tupper Lake, and truly enjoy the beautiful scenery, lack of pollution (are you hearing me California critics?), and wonderfully nice people that live there. I know Mark and his family, like all of us they are not without fault, Mark is an entertaining individual, but a crook/con artist? I think not. A lousy speller? No doubt. I look forward to retiring someday in Tupper, and skiing again at Big Tupper, in a town with virtually zero crime, no traffic, and no stratified social system. It ain't all bad folks, and if you want to clean up, start in your own backyard....

I have decided during my readings into this swamp of idiocy that Tupper Lake is the poster city for white trash that loves to gossip. You know, I was somewhat disappointed when Jerry Springer went off, but now I believe I might have found a suitable replacement. Now I just need video of you throwing chairs at each other.
I believe that perhaps Tupper Lake has the most dense population of dense people. If I lived closer I would pack up and spend a week up there on vacation. It would be an experiment, like the people who go and live with apes, although I think apes might be more civilized.

I think this is the funiest thing I have ever read. I think that Mr. Dewyea sounds like a real piece of work. Mark, you made yourself look even more stupid when you responded because your grammar is horrible. Don't you have to have some sort of education to run a business. I think it might help, obviously this is why your "company" is not doing so well. Or it could be the fact that you are a lazy loser!! You may want to start looking for another job because it doesn't look like this "owning your own company" is working out for you. You say that you have clients who have been satisfied. If there is such a thing you might want to give them this website to write into so you look like somewhat of a descent guy. Actually, it probably wouldn't help. Jennifer, what's wrong with Mudd Puddles? I went on a ski trip and stayed in Lake Placid. Ended up going drinking there, and had a blast. Let's just say the local girls are VERY friendly if you're from out of town. :) And, yes, I was protected. Lol.

Ok, this is just silly. I have read many a post here about Tupper Lake NY. I have lived from New York, to Florida, to Ohio, to Alabama, and (thankfully) back to my own bizarre state of California. Being in television broadcasting has shown me many interesting people, places, and events. But, I have never seen, heard, or had the displeasure of experiencing this absolutely incredible ruckus that comes from the town known as Tupper Lake NY. Never in my life have I heard of such a "poster child" for the pro-choice campaign. If there were any good reasons for abortion, this town is IT! This town, its people, its businesses, its city government,and all associated with it should be or should have been aborted long ago. I think that ultra-right nut case Jerry Falwell would even agree....abortion should be legal....at least in this town....and even the adults should be subjected to it.
Since my powers are limited, I feel compelled to at least do something about this horrible splot on the humanity of our nation. I have contacted The Jerry Springer Show and informed them of this site and the contents it holds. I explained in detail many of the exploits of Tupper Lake residents. If there is a God in Heaven itself, even he would know that the rest of this nation if not the rest of the world derserves to have a good laugh at the expense of this worthless town and its even more worthless residents (residents get a lower ranking because I really think that the dirt there did nothing wrong, nor was in an position to save itself. If it could walk, it would leave as well!)

LOL YOU PEOPLE MAKE ME LAUGH! I come back once a year to visit my family in Saranac Lake and wooo! tupper lake is still as miserable of a town as it could be. Now everyone knows that tupper can't afford crap..how many years did the high school go without a trackfield and had to come over to Saranac Lake and use ours? LAME!
Tupper lake is a boring ass town, with nothing to do but to go to the bars, and there are MORE rednecks in the town compared to sheep.
Now i know saranac lake has its rednecks and shares of problems but they're no where as BAD as TL's.

This is so sad. My wife bookmarked this site, and I mistakenly clicked on it. You people in other areas need to be smart enough to realize that this site only shows one side of Tupper Lake, and most people who post these "reports" have grudges.
Tupper Lake has no cows, and
"Mud Puddles" is a club that is in another town (Lake Placid) 40 minutes away. We are a decent-sized community that is currently growing for the first time in many years. The people about whom you are reading are on the fringe of society; the majority of people who live here have come from all over America and are far from being "inbred." We live here because it is one of the most beautiful and serene places left in America, and a place that is still largely untainted by the hand of man. We have very little crime, and very little open drug use. Wouldn't you like to live in an area where the obituaries seldom list a person under 80?
People such as Sigourney Weaver and Shania Twain have chose homes very close to this area, and with good reason. Keep an open mind as you read these pages, and realize that every town has its own share of delinquents. In spite of how this site appears, Tupper Lake is a wonderful town filled with some of the most friendly and open people you will ever meet. Having spent the first half of my life in L.A. and Buffalo, I feel lucky to have found this place, and am PROUD to call it my home now.

I did not believe all this when I first heard about it. What a fool I was not to listen when I was warned now that I am a victim along with many others of the North Country.
I am new to the computer and never had access to the Internet until recently. I have heard so much talk about this website for the past year people say they read this site instead of the Adirondack Daily Enterprise. Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake the land of lies and deceit and the king of rumors I did not believe what I was hearing. I just got finished reading for the last 5 hours and I have learned a lot not only about Tupper Lake but I actually read things that will help me family and friends in the near future to not get ripped off. I found out about a collage that will not give the proper credits after paying thousands if dollars and a credit card offer that will only take our money and send us nothing.
Now to my rip-off
I went to work for Mark Dewyea he seems so nice but I guess that is all a front. I see now he is nothing short of a con man a liar and a thief. His constant drug and alcohol use driving while extremely intoxicated bothers me so much. I have looked the other way and should not because I lost a family member to a drunk driver in Lake Placid.
It's now 3 weeks later and I a long with several others have not gotten paid for our hard work. Some other friends went to find Mark on one of his jobs to get paid and Mark asked them to help him load up material off the jobsite. Mark was in the process of stealing the material and wanted them to help him. Gladly they said no. Mark offered the material to be stolen as payment. Mark Dewyea is so messed up and a danger to society he should be removed from society.
I would like to say thank you for this informative website that not only gave me some real big laughs -hours of entertainment but very very informative information. I will spread the word.
And to those of you who know of Mark Dewyea or know anyone that will do business with him must do the right and tell others so they do not become another one of Mark Dewyeas victims.
Mark I know you will be reading this. Pay all of us what we worked for. I am going to the labor board. You pay no taxes and you have no insurance. Time to turn your life around.

I was born and raised in this town and I can tell you that what it lacks most is hope, and freedom. I have no doubts that a lot of peoples rights have been violated, living in this town we all know it's happened and we are all to blame. Because we all let it happen. To comply with this hate makes us haters. I believe that hate is created when there is no hope. Tupper Lake lost hope after many years passed by and we all watched while bad things happened to good people . We did so out of fear, because we are not allowed to think for ourselves. We let people talk us out of what we knew to be right and let them make us believe it was wrong. We have seen things that were so wrong and let people make us believe they were right. We all know right from wrong and we must learn to be true to ourselves. The truth will set us free. Instead of hating each other lend hope to one another. Put your energy into creating something not destroying everything. We are all worthy not just a few of us BUT ALL OF US!!! Here is to hope!!!

I am a former Adirondack resident born and educated in the Tupper Lake region.
I live in New York City now and periodically get homesick for the area. Last week while homesick I had access to the internet and stumbled upon my first "rip off report" on one Mr. Dewyea. While somewhat over the top, this report was a refreshing change from the sanitized drift I read in the Tupper Lake Free Press. I read every word with interest. The next day, I came back and read more. This week I then saw the Fox 5 news report on your website and my "RRR" interest was fueled.
While I question some of the ethics and motivations for the reports on Tupper, I see even the most questionable postings as a forum for very bored Tupper Lakers to vent their shitty emotions... while past residents can feel relieved they no longer live in such a place. The best of the postings give us what the Free Press cannot: an honest assessment of a town in decline.
It really is sad my parents' town cannot flourish. Maybe the "Rip Off Report" can help turn things around. Recently it has occured to me the the entire town of Tupper Lake has been ripped off: by themselves, mostly.

heres anothier case of miscarriage of justice in this town i know a person who paid danny a lot of money to remodle his house that guy paid big dollars in the thousands for new floor and marble counters ect... they picked out materials and the guy paid him up front they spent hours making the plans for the houses remodlen well after the plans were made the stuff picked out aND THE money was handed to him months went by no danny finaly one day danny shows up with a cheap parago floor worth less then two hunderd dollars just enough to do the size of tiny room about 6 foot by 6 foot any way he takes this flooring puts it in the garadge says here and walks away says put this toghter ur self i quiet . well that caused that family alot of grieff cause they paid thousands of dollars to this man weres the marble weres the cabnettes and cupboards weres the hard wood floor that was supost to be orderd weres the money they gave????????? well that family took him to court for the money back because that family wasnt originaly from tupper the judge side on dannys behalf cause danny said they kept chaing the plans for that house so i quiet judge said ok i rule in favor of danny . what a bunch of shit they never changed the plans they only seen danny the time the suplies were picked out and he was paid for the job the second time they seen dewya is when he droped that parago floor off said i quiet, well come to find out judge personaly knew the family also to top that off that guy got off with even laying the floor down weres the justice?????

Let me make a guess here - you two used to be some what good aquaintences (if not friends, considering you act more like a divorced couple in court) Anyways my guess is that this job that was done caused a conflict between you two as it almost always will, when you hire a "friend" or family member to do a job and this site was your way of getting back or "even" with each other by pulling all the skeletons out of the closet. Real cute, I baby-sit 6-8 year olds who do basically the same thing. Really though, you people need to get out more, or take up a hobby. To answer your question about what is so great about living in AZ-
First of all, the weather is PERFECT. Yeah it gets hot sometimes, but that is the reason why 90% of our population has a swimming pool in their backyard, unlike Tupper Lake who probably only has cows and snow plowers residing in their back yards.
Second of all... there are well over 3 million people in the Valley alone so unlike Tupper Lake, we don't have to resort to dating our cousins/sisters/uncles/brothers or our friends left overs.
Third of all, we have plenty of "hangouts" and cool places to go, unlike Tupper Lake who only has the "Mudd Puddle"
Last but not least, Phoenix is a great place to live. There is always something to do, not to mention that Cali, Vegas, Mexico and Colorado are all a hop and a skip away.
Now that I've schooled you a little bit, its time for you to sit down, shut up and not speak unless spoken too.

I hired Mark to remodel my bathroom in March of 2002, what an awful experience. The first couple days he showed up it seemed like he did a good job but then it got wierd and nothing was finished properly. One day I noticed my closet door was open. I looked inside and found some of my Hustler magazines were missing. I was pissed.
The next day I decided to come home from work and see how Mark was doing on the job at my house. I parked my car down the street and snuck up to my house. Marks truck was gone so I went in. I found one of my missing magazines on the bathroom counter. I heard Mark pull up so I went and hid to see what I could catch him doing. He went into my bedroom and got into my wifes things, I could not believe what i was seeing, too gross to say on this great web site. When Mark was done he left the room. I snuck out of the house and then prtended like I came home and fired him. Mark still owes me back the 500.00 deposit I gave him. This man needs help.

This man deserves what he gets. I'm glad I know about this contractor. My husband and I were looking for someone to do some work for us, and Im glad I happened to catch this online. We feel bad for this woman and her husband who is ill. I hope they take him to the cleaners. Get what you deserve ma'm and this web site says, "dont let him get away with it." He seems to have a smart mouth and a terrible attitude towards you and your family after you have already paid him for a job thats not done and what was done was a lousy job. This man still owes me money from work that I use to do for him. He was never on the job sites. He tells us what to do, never fully explaining everything, and then he takes off driving around town all day while we do all the work.

i have been a very good friend to this family for many years buddy. i think you now know that you have crossed a very thin line somewhere, dont you?i wouldn't go as far as passing off comments about someone when you have some things that go on in your family right marky? if you look hard enough we might not find you because they do make some pretty BIG rocks for some BIG-GOONS like yourself. and at least people can wear underwear without the top of their cheeks hanging out(and those are some big cheeks pretty boy)!

It is unfortunate that this man calls himself a business man in Tupper Lake. First of all, he cannot even spell, and second of all he really has no real rebuttal except to degrade the people
that gave him money to do a job.
Obviously, the man does not know how to bid a job if it cost him more than what he got. Maybe if
he was at the jobsite working when he is billing his clients for hours worked and not riding around in his new truck, he might have made
more than $9.63 an hour.

I stand buy my work,. Not only did the roof leak the family moved their sick father under the only roof leak in the house, that poor man he must be proud of his sons that stole poor Percey Trombley's Generator. AND THEY ARE CALLING ME A THIEF. what a joke. they tell you the roof cost 6,000. well let me tell you sweet cheeks(and them are some big cheeks).
The roof in all material & labor cost 4050.00 the new chimney cost around 500.00 the materials cost me 2,200. There was also 192 man hrs. not counting the five times i chiped three feet of ice off her UN INSULATED and poorly vented ATTIC wich had nothing to do with the job i did.S0 if you add it up the hourly rate equaled $9.63 hr to install her roof. I GOT F****D NOT SHANNON. Buy the way she stripped for most of my freinds and they were sick to their stomaches.she should get a real life and wake up and smell my balls

Get Some Relief for your Grandmother

If what you say is true then this man has financially exploited your grandmother. You can get some relief for her by going to the nearest county courthouse and filing in small claims. The most you can get is $3,000. You can't compel him to fix what he's done, you can only ask for money to have a real professional come in a fix what he failed to do.
It will cost you $15 to file. All you need is some estimates to complete the job, an affidavit from the person the fraudster told he ripped off your grandmother and your grandmother herself. Make sure you take pictures of the roof and any evidence of the leaky roof.
Make sure you also make a report to the consumer fraud division of your local police department. Maybe they can recover some money or at the very least, prevent this from happening to another senior.
