I went into the Rockford, IL MC Sports to purchase ammunition.  My son was convinced I needed a gun and then he was worried I wouldn't be able to purchase ammunition and I was going to need some to learn to use the gun.  So I went to the store.  My son told me I needed 22LR and he had just purchased 1000 count for $22.00.

When I went to the store, it was obvious I didn't know what I was talking about. I specifically said to the store associate "My son said I need 22LR ammunition, do you have that?". He knew he had an easy target when he showed me the price on the outside of the box that read $11.99 and when I asked how many were in there, he said there were 500 in the box. I thought that was right about what my son had paid.  The store associate never showed me one of the small, 50 count boxes inside with the price stamped on it?

I handed my husband the box and asked him to pay for them while I checked out the shoes in the back.  He was not at the counter where I got the ammunition and hadn't heard the conversation I had with the associate.  A couple days later I saw the charge in my bank account and looked at my receipt.

It was a lot more than the $11.99 I was told.

I looked at my receipt and didn't find anything about not being able to return ammunition.  The return policy was 30 days with receipt.  When I returned them to the store I was told I couldn't return ammunition and that there was a sign posted in the ammunition area.

Then when I complained to the store manager, he told me there was no price gougeing, the ammunition I purchased was Olympic/Competition level ammunition, which infuriated me even more.  That sales associate knew I was not at an Olympic or Competition level.  He just confirmed my belief that I was taken advantage of.

Now I fully understand the return policy.  My complaint is the way I was taken advantage of.  That associate knew I thought he was talking about the whole box.  He never once said it was per box.  The price of $11.99 was on the outside of the box and that is what he showed me.  It makes me wonder how many times I, as well as others, have been taken advantage of by this store.
