I decided to take a Pharmacy technician course through this company expecting to be further educated in this profession. Unfortunately , I was totally deceived by this company. It started out for the first month like every other course I had ever taken. Then three months in our teacher quit, we were left withoput a teacher for two months and then we received an unqualified teacher who had never spent one day in a pharmacy. Now mind you we were in our 6th month of class. We were then told after two weeks with this unqualified person that we now had our externships and to go and find somewhere to do them. I was told that they would have one for me in november, which  then led to january, and still I wait at this point . We have not had a single class since October. None of the entire class of 12 has ever been able to complete this course for which we were charged the whole fee. They failed to complete their end of the contract and ripped off me personally, as well as those who used Career Central monies to even take this class.

#1 REBUTTAL Owner of company

Disgruntled Student

AUTHOR: MTC - ()

Sadly this author was so discouraged that they could not leave their true name - but as a rebuttal to the unjustified accusations:  It is a shame that in an adult education atmosphere that people feel that they can make their own rules and not follow school rules that they have agreed to in writing.

This was a new program to this school with a new Instructor who had over 10 years of experience in all aspects of Pharmacy both retail and hospital.  The class was so unruly with their attitudes, attendance, language and total disregard for the school, the teacher, or their own education that a few students were dismissed from the program.  Because of the students improper behavior, it forced the Instructor to resign from her position for medical reasons.  At that point a new Instructor had been brought in with a Master's Degree in Education, he was a Paramedic and he was a Pharmacy Technician in the Military and was fully capable and qualified for the position.  This new Instructor was brought in 1 week after the first Instructor left not causing disruption.

MTC has followed all guidelines to qualifications of Instructors, replacement of Instructors and curriculum set forth by the Florida Board of Education.  Also, according to the same entity, it is not a requirement of MTC or was never in the student contract that they would receive an externship.  This was only offered to students as an added feature to the program of study IF a site was available.  For these students the school aligned ourselves with a national pharmacy CVS to offer them the opportunity to learn on site.  It was up to the student to follow-up with drug and background testing etc.  So again, if this was not completed by the student in a timely fashion the student would of course not be successful.

But the student who submitted this report - was offered an externship site in Spring Hill which he refused to go because he felt he did not want to work with the Pharmacist (owner). Also, because of his training at MTC was offered a job with CVS Pharmacy and quit because he felt the salary was not worth it to him nor was completing the appropriate channels that they required for employment.  And the third opportunity this student had was another local pharmacy in his area working around his own hours, and the student was scheduled to start and called off sick, never to be heard from again.  Which was about the same day this report was written.

As the complainant mentioned that some students were financed through state funding (Career Central) for this program is an incorrect statement on his part.  The only student who used state funding happened to be himself and it is a shame that he would use this as a source of a complaint since he was the only one with the funding and did not follow through on his obligations as a student to complete the necessary requirements of the school, CVS Pharmacy or his other externship.

As a business, we understand that we cannot make everyone happy.  But we do the best to help our community.  We not only allow students to come into our facility to use our computers and printers for their school and personal needs (as we did for this particular student) but we also offer payment plans to help students pay for the classes, we scholarship students into programs, we help to work around the needs of students as far as schedules, children, jobs, etc.  MTC also works with students on absences due to personal issues, illnesses etc. unlike other schools would do.

Again, this is an adult educational facility, if someone feels that they have a legitimate problem with the school, teacher or otherwise there is a chain of command in which that student can follow to resolve any problems.  MTC also has a Student Board that acts as advocates for the student.

MTC has had wonderful reviews from students before and we quite honestly have had a few negative reviews, but we also find that the negative reviews were from students who didn't fulfill their obligations and need an avenue to complain.  Obviously, we are a licensed school who is inspected yearly on student files, facility, facility guidelines etc. and has successfully been in business for 5 years.  We do work with the State of Florida and other State Licensing Agencies to provide the best education possible to our local community.
