They then say you can,
What they are now doing is splitting up the FREE Local and Long Distance from the FREE U.S. Phone Number - or transfer your current phone number. When signing up for the five years it says no where that you will have to continually pay, and be billed for, transferring over your old phone number. It is deceptive advertising.
One month before your anniversary date you will receive the following message, "PLEASE NOTE: Your Phone Number Subscription associated with the number (XXX) xxx-xxxx is EXPIRING SOON, on 10/22/2012. Renew Number Subscription Now
You can purchase a different phone number for $10.00 for a "one time fee" but that's probably false as well. Or to keep your home phone number which everyone has you have to pay a yearly fee of $10.43 (incl. 4.8% regulatory fee).
No where does it state this in their advertising.
