Majic Jack This device does not work. I was able to install internet phone but calls had so much static, it was unusable most of the time. Every couple weeks, MajicJack would take over my computer, then crash. I was able to reinstall but finally, it completely died. MajicJack has only online customer service, who suggested that I buy additional equipment to make MajicJack work and no refund can be made. Miami Florida

Majic Jack does not work. I was able to install Majic Jack, but phone line had so much static calls were unintelligable. Periodically, Majic Jack would take over my computer and crash. Customer service is available only on line and their only advice was to purchase another device to make Majic Jack work----they refused to refund purchase. RIPOFF! Ann, Beverly Hills, CA

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Give it time

AUTHOR: Dave - (U.S.A.)

Majic Jack installs its program in separate position on the hard drive--and actually can even give it a drive letter of its own--I found that if you are one of those people that shuts down your computer often --on bootup-- Majic Jack has to reinstall itself and verify connections--which may take 10 seconds. If you pounce on the Majic Jack Icon prematurely and select it to make it come alive it appears if you are trying to run 2 separate instances at the same time--some computers go to sleep--others "freeze".

When I was impatient and things stalled I resorted to cntrl alt del keys to get to task mgr and end the majic jack process--when things returned to normal I then clicked on majic jack icon and clicked "upgrade now" Everything goes back to normal.

Be paient--or like me --leave the computer on--requires little power--and is much easier on the circuits--they dont have to deal with 50 degree temps changes several times a day.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Scratchy sound

AUTHOR: Dave - (U.S.A.)

The first weeks I had it it did have audio problems intermittenly--I upgraded majic jack and that did not work---a real person online from Majic jack walked me through how to test the unit and gave me a website to download (for free) more suitable audio codecs for my computer. 2 minutes and the fix has been permanent.

I have had many more problems with audio related programs such as "Realplayer" and "Quicktime" than I ever did with Majic Jack.

If you cant "fix" it in less than a week--send it back--no money lost. I, as you, assumes the problem is the unit--more often than not it is the computer configuration when installing new software.
