The MD at the time was to busy bongking one of the staff to really care. What makes it worse the managers that come from overseas branches are arrogant pricks. Salaries at the Johannesburg Branch were never always paid on time and explantions were never forth coming, I fought for my commission once because the sale was so huge, first excuse was that the client had'nt paid, I proved them wrong with providing them with proof that payment was done on time, second excuse the MD had'nt signed off the payment, eventually after fighting for weeks on end it was paid out. I then decided to resign, Marcus Evans does not have business ethics, they lie, steal and cheat their staff and clients. Typical example was during the world cup last year, products were sold to companies with world cup tickets and suites at the various stadiums around South Africa, when the clients got there they were turned away and all tickets confiscated because they were not valid. Marcus Evans the company wasnt even at the events. Millions were lost by clients.
As far as I'm concerned Marcus Evans and companies who do business in this way should be closed down and its executives arrested and their assest taken away from them. Every Dog gets its day.

Although I no longer work at marcus evans (after leaving the country) I would like to say that I worked there for a period of 3 years, and have never had a job before or since that I enjoyed more or worked with such wonderful people. Whilst working there I aways recieved my pay in time and in full. I agree the basic salaries were fairly low, but if you are a semi-decent sales person good commission could be made and I always earned good money.
I was promoted from a junior sales position, to senior sales, to sales manager and finally send to training overseas for 5 weeks - all expenses paid, whilst still being paid my South African salary - and then finally started up Sponsorship Sales for the conferencing department.
Whilst employed there I had many of my own personal demons to deal with, and found the Management of marcusevans to be nothing but supportive & understanding & always willing to help when possible.
I do not know who you are, nor who your husband is, but I would like to say that a poor workman always blames his tools, or in this case blames the product he has been provided with to sell. I will admit that on occassion the production team misjudged the market and produced products that were unsuccesful, but not all of their products were like this - it would not be financialy viable for them to run a business in that manner.
I therefore put it to you that perhaps your husband was in the wrong job and would be suited to a different form of employment. I understand that he is your husband, that you love him & I admire you for standing up fop him, but I think youi may be slightly biased with your thought process. Marcus Evans is a large successful International organisation and they have not managed to build that up over a period of approximately 20 years by producing shoddy events & mis treating their sales staff.
I wish you and your husband well in all your future endeavours.
