Marina Sailing.

BAD NEWS for you as a boat owner

Our yacht was new in 2005.For the last 1 years we hired Marina Sailing to manage chartering our boat. We realize now it was a BIG MISTAKE. We knew there was a risk of it not being taken care the way we do. We had no idea the amount of damage that Marina Sailing & their members would cause. It wasnt limited to the renters. The cleaning crew used comment on the stainless. You can only imagine.

Most people would call this stealing.

Marina Sailing charged the renter above the daily rate showing us, the boat owner they collect the right amount. This way they paid us less. The written agreement states the owner share is 60% of the fee actually collected. A three day charter rate on out boat mid week would be $1035. This charter they charged over $1,300 but showed us they charged only $775 actually stating they discounted the rate to the people renting the boat.. The charter customer was shocked he paid $300 more the actual rate. He found out after receiving his credit card statement. This customer is a friend from elementary school. That is how we found out what marina sailing was doing. They are cooking the books.

They are ripping off both, the boat owners and the customers renting the boats.

The boat owner pays for the insurance policy to protect the boat & liability for the Marina Sailing, personal injury. The policy is a little more then a good policy from many other insurance companies.Marina Sailing charges a daily insurance fee to the charter customer. When asked what that fee covers they never have a clear answer. They dont pay this fee to the insurance company or the boat owner.

Many of their sailors received ASA Certification by them.

The people they rent to are supposed to be trained.

Their members have run boats into rocks, docks and other boats on more occasions then you can count on two hands in just one year, in just this marina. One of the sail boats hit a dock causing $5000 damage to the dock. The Marina Sailing management didnt inform the boat owner according to harbor management. The boat owner found out his boat hit something when his insurance company called him two weeks after the incident to get some information.Marina Sailing tried to report the claim without the boat owner ever knowing.

The sailor that hits rock received his certification through Marina Sailing.

This ASA Certified Sailor went to anchor in a cove that the sailing books saystay out, dangerous & rocky. He didnt follow the float plan he filed with Marina Sailing. The sailing books say dont go into this anchorage it is dangerous and rocky. The Marina Sailing GM said it was not up to them to protect your boat. They actually gave this guy a free pass and told him he didnt owe for the owners out of pocket expenses. The boat was in boat yard for 6 weeks of the peak sailing. There were more then 15 days the boat was reserved to go out. Our out of pocket was $3,700 A few years ago one of the other boats in their care ran aground so hard it broke the keel loose. It was discovered during a bottom cleaning. The boat owner was out of pocket $35,000 from the boat owners account. He sued Marina Sailing for charter income they tried not to pay then. The Judgment was for the boat owner.

Marina Sailing dose nothing to remedy damage

Their Sailing Club members use the boats hard.It seems they have no regard for other peoples property.I installed locks on a couple of cabinets for private owner things. The last charter the cabinets were ripped open breaking the wood work. If you want you boat destroyed then by all means hook up with these guys they do a pretty good job is screwing your boat up.

We were fortunate that they moved out of our marina.

They left owing us $1,000 in rent, $1,000 in repairs &$1,500 for writing a bad check. Damage included holes in the dingy floor, broken fiberglass on the cockpit and cigarette burns on the cockpit cushions and fiberglass finish on the swim steps. The last check they wrote for a 4 day charter bounced. It is time for this outfit to leave our harbor. They wait 60 days before they pay you for the rent they collect. It seems like they hope you forget the boat was rented and how much you should receive.

.They have a racing team that goes from harbor to harbor using the boats in a series of races. The group insurance policy that covers the boat through the fleet does not cover the boat when being raced. Most of these people using the boats in their fleet are amateurs. Our boat was returned filthy with damage after their club races and never repaired or cleaned.

Over 50 Years of Happy Boat Owners

AUTHOR: Marina Sailing - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 03, 2012

We are saddened to hear that one of our boat owners was not satisfied with his experience having his boat in charter. For over 50 years, Marina Sailing has been working with boat owners to charter their unused boats as a way to generate income for the boat owner, as well as provide some tax relief for them. We have worked with hundreds of boat owners, and almost all will tell you that their experience with us was excellent. In fact, many of our boat owners have been with us for many years with multiple boats in our charter management program. Our number one goal has always been to exceed the expectations of our boat owners. We implement top notch maintenance and cleaning procedures to ensure all boats are properly cared for while they are in our charter fleet.

Again, we are saddened that a boat owner was not happy with his experience. The contents of his report posted here are untrue, in
fact, this particular boat owner went as far as to take us to small claims court with these 'claims.' Case no: 56-2011-00390478-SC-SC-VTA, Bishow vs. Marina Sailing, the judge ruled no award to this boat owner as his claims were not sustained against Marina Sailing.
