Mary Jane P Melton, Attorney At Law Unethical and Dishonest Lafayette Georgia

Mary Jane P Melton took several thousands of dollars to represent my son on a custody case for his children. She was the most incompetant/arrogant attorney I have ever come in contact.
She took advantage of his unfamilarity of the legal system, and did not even remotely represent him. She acted as if every phone call, every question, EVERY THING was a bother...she had her money and was through.

Below is a Copy of Complaint to the Georgia Bar Association: (still pending)

I retained Ms Melton for the second time, to represent me in a custody case on August 1, 2006. I paid her the fee she required up front and in full. The case was very complex, and because my mother had once been involved and had custody of my children, Ms Melton invited my mothers input and notes into the case.

After a year as my counsel, she writes my mother and me a letter requesting my mother Intervene and ask for custody of my children. She request only I contact her office and enclosed with the letter is a bill, with several errors, bogus charges and a request for additional money.
My mother promptly files pro se as an Intervener, as Ms Melton requested. She could not afford an attorney at that time.
On the day of court, Ms Melton hands my mother a copy of her Motion To Withdraw, in the hall, while waiting to see the judge. I wrote her a letter, mailed asking Ms Melton to reconsider, and stated that there were all sorts of errors in her billing statement. I let her know that our agreement was $2500.00; if she were billing by the hour why had I not received a break down of charges before now, ONE YEAR after she was first retained, and why would I think there would be any more charges when the last time she represented me it was for a set fee also.
I filed an Objection to Motion to Withdraw pro se and wrote Ms Melton another letter in a good faith effort to settle this dispute. I requested a FULL refund of the $2500 in fees paid to her, so that I could retain a competent attorney to represent me in this case that was so very important to my children and me. Ms Melton's actions are a flagrant disregard for her client, his welfare, and that of his children. She not only took my funds, but also left me without representation in a very complex custody case, which I subsequently lost due to the fact I had to continue the legal process pro se.

Do Not Put your money or faith in Ms Mary Jane P Melton, Attorney in the Lookout Mountain Judicial System, she will only take your money and is in my opinion a disgrace to her profession.
